71st Hunger Games

Elizabeth went over the reaping ceremonies from the other districts to know what her tributes were up against. Districts one, two and four were known as the career districts. They train from a very young age to eventually have the honor of volunteering to fight to their death. Elizabeth couldn't understand it. How could anyone want to volunteer to go into the arena? When she got to district seven, Elizabeth stopped.

Johanna Mason came off as a scared timid girl, but Elizabeth knew how dangerous she really was. The door to the dining area opened and in walked Haymitch holding a flask about to drink it.

"Absolutely not." Elizabeth said, snatching it out of his hand.

"Give it back."

"You need to concentrate on helping your tributes not plastering yourself with liquor." She said pocketing the flask.

"What exactly do you want me to do for them? I have no advice for them." Haymitch grumbled taking a seat at the table.

"Haymitch, these kids are not here by choice, they need all the advice they could get. So, instead of making yourself drunk, help them and maybe, just maybe they'll have better odds." Elizabeth stated. Haymitch let out a groan.

"I'll try my best." He said begrudgingly. He looked over at Elizabeth who was sitting there with a notebook and pen.

"What are you even doing?"

"Homework on the other districts." Elizabeth said.

"What about the other districts?" A voice behind them asked. Elizabeth and Haymitch both turned around to see Ace standing there.

"Where's Fern?" Elizabeth inquired. Ace shrugged.

"She's around." He answered sitting down across from Elizabeth. Ace took a slice of bread, spread strawberry jam across it then took a bite.

"So, what do I need to know about the other districts?" He asked again in between bites.

"Don't trust one, two or four." Elizabeth answered.

"And why is that?"

"One, two and four are career districts. They are trained in an academy until they're eighteen and then they volunteer." Haymitch replied, trying to get a bottle of liquor that was out on the table only for Elizabeth to grab it first.

"Seriously?" He said annoyed.

"Yes seriously." She said calmly.

"Who in their right mind would volunteer to go into a death trap willingly?" Ace asked.

"To them it's an honor." Elizabeth said sarcastically.

"Some honor." Ace said cynically. There was a long silence before he spoke up again.

"So who could I count on as an ally?" He asked.

"Ten and eleven." Haymitch replied.

"So basically the other poor districts."

"Let's worry about allies later." Elizabeth said. The door to the dining car opened again.

"What did I miss?" Fern inquired.

"That we shouldn't trust one, two and four." Ace replied.

"Why not?"

As the two tributes argued with Haymitch, Elizabeth had this gut feeling they weren't going to make it. Not with Johanna Mason there. There was nothing she could do to change that fixed point in time. As much as she would've loved for Fern or Ace to win Elizabeth couldn't help, but wonder what would happen to the Mockingjay if Johanna didn't survive.
