Prologue

As my eyes slowly open under the light of the bright sun, I look up and see the sky of the world I have created long ago. I feel my powers slowly returning as I take a look at my surroundings; blood. I stood up to check if any of these tribal humans survived, but sadly, none has escaped his wrath. He is still a brutal bastard. I should know, because I fought him.

What should I do now?’ I asked myself while sensing his power moving toward the east.

I know I can’t trick him this time but ‘who’ or ‘what’ can help me? The only creatures, who have greater knowledge to fight, would be humans; but I believe that the evil he first spawned has manifested and spread throughout Orbis.

‘There must be humans with pure souls left in this world, warriors who are ready to fight a battle, millions cannot conquer, hearts which can withstand vast amounts of pain or undeniable  temptations. Are there humans who I can count on with the safety of the good and pure? I guess I need to search.’

After having thought over my next move, I quickly transported myself to a secluded cave in the mountains. I closed my eyes and my spiritual form glided to the sky, covering vast lands to find the warriors this world clearly needed.

When I opened my eyes, I see a small fragile girl who looks to be about seven years of age, sitting on a wooden bench playing with her doll alone but a boy, much bigger than her, pushed her roughly over the bench and walked away laughing with his buddies. She tucks a small strand of her chocolate brown hair behind her ear and looked around with her striking forest-green eyes, looking if they’d come back. She stood up again and sat back on the bench. Thankfully, I’m invisible. I carefully sat down next to her to get a closer look at her mind and soul.

‘Why did mommy need to leave daddy and me? Daddy never comes home and the kids hate me because I’m too shy to play with them, but I know that I need to be strong for Daddy. I don’t hate the kids who torture me everywhere I go because I know I’m better than them. I won’t stoop down to their level; but it would be nice to have one friend. ’ She sighed and returned playing with her doll.

I smiled and stood up to stand in front of the little girl. I looked at her one last time thinking ‘She’s a perfect candidate. I found one of my warriors! Now, to find the rest of them.’

I felt myself being transported to the next pure entity existing in this world. I open my eyes to see a girl about the same age as the first warrior. Her clothes were ragged and torn, her brown locks were a mess, her pale skin was covered with mud and dirt but she still has a gleam in her eyes as she cradles the small baby in her arms under the old cement bridge with only a small fire to keep them both warm. She was humming a soft melody and kept cooing sweet nothings in the baby’s ear.

I walked toward her as she laid down on cut up cardboard and carefully placed the baby next to her, making sure its head lay comfortably on a small pillow made from scraps of cloth. I sat next to her and carefully entered her mind.

‘Life being abused by our father is not the life I want for my brother. I’m scared he might find us. I need to be strong not just for Rory but also for me. I would do anything just so that my little brother wouldn’t have to go through the pain and gain scars like I did. The only thing that bothers me is, would Rory be happy with this life? We don’t have a place to go, no money; nothing. I don’t want him to have to grow-up so fast just to help me; no, he shouldn’t have to worry and enjoy his childhood. I’m so sorry Rory. I need to let you go. It’s decided, Rory I’m taking you to the orphanage tonight.’ A stray tear left her eyes yet she wiped it away quickly.
