Chapter 3: Drawing

I open my eyes and stay laying in bed for a few minutes. In a moment of realisation, I grab my phone and check the time. 2pm?! Did I really sleep that much?! I hurry out of bed and rush downstairs to the kitchen where I find my mom making herself a cup of coffee. She turns to me with a smile.

"Oh, good afternoon, darling. Do you wanna eat something?"

"But.. Are you not going to work?"

"As a baker, I finish at 12am, dear."

"Oh yeah, I forgot about that.. But why didn't you wake me up?" I say, bending over to pet my cat, Taro.

"If you sleep that much, then that means you need to. You looked exhausted yesterday and you don't have school today so you might as well get some rest."

I get back up. "Speaking of yesterday, I don't remember coming back here.." I say as I take a box of mochi. I eat one and go sit at the table with mom.

"That's because you were asleep. A young blond came and dropped you off."

I freeze. Right, I remember now.. I feel asleep on Mikey's back.."

She sees my reaction and asks with a smile:

"Do you know him?"

"Hm.. Yes. I mean, kinda.." I say as I put another mochi in my mouth.

"Is he your friend?"

I nod. I answer with my mouth full. "Yesh.." I swallow and continue. "Pretty much."

"That boy is adorable."

I take another mochi to my mouth but then I stop. "By the way.. How did he find our house if I didn't give him our address?" I look at her, with question marks in my eyes.

"Oh, he told me that Takemichi told him that you're his neighbour. He must know Takemichi's address."

"Yes but how come he knew which house was ours??"

"Our surname is written next to the door, dear." She answers with a smile.

"Oh yeah, true.." I take a bite of another mochi.

"What's his name, by the way?" She asks as she takes a sip of her coffee.

"Mikey." I say with my mouth full.

"Mikey? Isn't that a foreign name?"

"Hmm.. I think sho.." I swallow.

"It's a very pretty name, though."

"Yes!"

I finish eating and tidy up behind me. I feel like I forgot about something..

"Maybe you should change. I doubt you're confortable walking around in your uniform."

"Oh, yeah! Thanks mom!" I say as I run towards the stairs. I can hear her laughing behind me.

I go take a shower, then I go to my room to change. I leave my room with clothes to go out a few minutes. I go downstairs with my sketchbook and a pencil.
