Here it is, the day before the party. Donna had just arrived, and she was stoked to see her boys. Alex, Claire, and Kaia had all taken the same car down to the bunker as well. They were about an hour away from them, so everyone in the bunker hung out watching movies, baking cookies, and telling holiday stories. Everyone sat in the Dean Cave once again, in their pjs, drinking hot cocoa. Jody, Donna, and Sam were all having their own conversation, while Dean and Cas were in their own private little world. Cas drank his cocoa and looked around the room. He looked just like a human and blended in perfectly. He was wearing a white long sleeve top, grey and white plaid pants, fuzzy socks, and a pair of UGG boots. Dean watched the angel slowly drift his mind into a state of  zoning out. He smiled softly, thinking to himself about how cute it was that someone like Cas would be so human like.

This caught Donna's eye. She tapped Sam and pointed to his brother. Sam smiled at the sight of this. He loved it when he would catch Dean daydreaming. Jody's phone ran. "Hey, Alex," she said. "Are you guys almost here?" She got up and left the room. "Hey, Dean," Sam said, grabbing both Dean and Cas's attention. "Why don't move closer to Cas if you're gonna stare at him that much?" Donna hit the younger Winchester in the arm. "Leave your brother alone." Cas tilted his head, then looked at Dean. "You were staring at me?"

"Only for a s-second," Dean stuttered. "There's still flour in your hair f-from earlier."

Earlier. Holy shit. Dean had totally forgotten about earlier.

________

Dean and Cas were in the kitchen cleaning up the mess everyone had made from baking cookies. The two of them laughed and sang Christmas songs, cleaning while also making a mess as they went. "I can't believe you slammed the bag of flour on the table," Dean laughed while scrubbing a bowl. "Yes, Dean," Cas replied with a sigh. "I know. You've mentioned it five times already." Even though Cas was "annoyed" by Dean's behavior, he couldn't help but smile at the sound of Dean's laughter and his excitement. Dean dried his hands and walked over to the angel, who was bent over  picking up a single sprinkle off the floor. When he stood up Dean had noticed the bit of flour that was in his hair from the explosion Cas had caused when he slammed the bag on the table. Dean grabbed Cas's shoulder. "Wait," he said. "There's a bit of flour in your hair. Let me get it." Dean reached into Cas's hair, causing them to lock eye contact. His hand slowly stopped as he felt himself leaning in.

Here they were. Was this really gonna happen?

"Hey," Sam said, causing both of them to take a step back. "You guys done here? We're gonna eat the cookies without you." Dean nodded, walking away from Cas. "Mhm. Yeah. You comin', Cas?" Before the angel could even answer, Dean was gone.

Guess not.

________

"Oh," Castiel said. "Okay then. I'll take care of it." He got up and set his cup down. When he was no longer seen, Dean knew he had to say something. "Did you.. Did you see something happen between us, Sam?" The younger Winchester shrugged but grinned. "C'mon, Sammy. Don't be like this. Did you see something or not?" Sam sighed. "I may have seen you and Cas go in to kiss each other and then pull away when I arrived. But, I promise my intention wasn't to interrupt, frankly I didn't know that was gonna happen."

Dean stared into his half empty cup. "Yeah, I know. It's my fault. I let my guard down thinking that maybe something would happen and our relationship could be more. None of that stuff ever works out for me anyways." Donna got up and took Castiel's place. "You have to stop thinking that you don't deserve nice things, Dean," she said. "It's okay to think that things like this can happen. You're allowed to be yourself and love who you love. But that demon in the back of your brain, you got to fight him. Don't let him win." She put a reassuring hand on Dean's knee. "You got this." He smiled softly, a silent thank you that she understood. "I'll be back," Dean said. "I'm gonna go talk to him."
