When you've lived all your life to always appease people around you , you forget how to understand your emotions not because you don't have them but you're more afraid what will happen to all the expectations that have been pushed on you, if you started acknowledging what your heart tells you.
Will you be able to shoulder the disappointment of so many people who have trusted you?
How can you be selfish and thin about yourself when there are so many lives dependent on you.
That's how Robert Maroni had always lived his life.
Always trying to do the right thing for people around him and locking away his emotions and need because if he started doing what he truly desired for , he wouldn't have been able to protect his parents business empire when they died in a car accident when he was only 18. He had to step up to ensure that his family won't become target of their enemies in the business world.
He had to give up his passion and dreams for his family.
He had to take away all the blows so he could shield his family , if he didn't then he wouldn't have let himself be coerced into forcefully marrying Violet, the daughter of their business rival to protect his family business.
If he would've cared enough about himself he wouldn't have let his wife seduce him under the effects of drugs any force any physical relationship with him. He had surrendered himself to his fate and had accepted the loveless marriage for what it was. A sham. Violet was never interested in him or their children. Why she wanted to have them in first place is something Robert never understood. He loved his boys with all his heart. They were the only good thing on his life.
The first time he was selfish for himself was when he filed for divorce form Violet and free himself from the toxic marriage which had started to affect his sons negatively.
Violet believed he was a coward for never standing up for himself and abused him emotionally throughout their marriage. But she was clueless about one thing, Robert Maroni will forgive you for hurting him but he will make living hell for you if you dared to hurt his loved ones. He knew his marriage was over when she raised her hand on a little Liam. Robert was anything but a bad father to his children and so he did what he should have done years ago; divorce Violet.
His business suffered a lot due to divorce but he was adamant to stay strong for his boys. No business deal would ever come close to the happiness of his sons.
Robert was content in his life or so he thought.
Anna James was someone he never new he needed. Robert had always thought himself as a man who was only attracted to superficial beauty, appearances was what made him agree to marry Violet in the first place.
But then he realized how beautiful kindness can truly be when he saw Anna. The uncondtional love she had for his sons. Her kind and caring honey brown eyes.
He never realized how much truly he craved for her gentle caresses. How desperate he was for someone to finally love him fully. The way she would soothe his emotional wounds with her warm presence and kindness.
He had never expected to love the secret glances he shred with his son's nanny . He lovedher talks He loved her smile He loved her humming while she put the twins to bed He loved when she would hold him when his past would haunt him He loved when she looked at him like an admirable man not a coward
He never realized how you can love someone for existing. But he did. He loved Anna with every cell in his body. It was an all consuming love but Robert was way too willing to be drowned if it meant it was Anna he was loving.
When he realized the depth of his emotions for Anna , he didn't wait anymore to marry her . He wanted to surrender himself to her. He wanted to love her in front of the world and let them know how lucky he was to have Anna as his wife.
And then came Estella. Their little star. Their princess. Youngest of 6 siblings with 5 older brothers she was destined to be spoiled with their love.
Life was perfect.
He loved the chaos of their kids in his home.
He loved living with his Anna and their children.
But maybe in the bliss of their happiness he forgot how it felt to lose something that was the necessity for your breathing. He forgot how to stay strong when your whole world gets crumbled. He forgot he had his sons to look after when he lost his love.
His world became void of everything when he lost his wife and daughter.
The fire of vengeance nearly swallowed him alive if not for his sons
He would've died the same night when he was helpless under drugs and couldn't protect his family. When he couldn't protect his wife and daughter to being killed.
But he needed to be there for his sons .
If he felt weak who was going to protect and love his boys ?
He couldn't fail any of his children anymore.
He wouldn't disappoint Anna and make her feel guilty for his mental breakdown .
He would raise his sons with same love and care , Anna showed them so that when he reunite with her in afterlife he can be answerable to her and Estella.
But when he had accepted the cruelty of life , it threw the biggest shock of happiness to him.

While thinking about the back story for estella parents I kind of loved it 😭 Stupidly I already killed her mother even before the story began but 🤷♀️ I'll definitely write something similar to their story with happy ending ...... I couldn't go in more details because honestly how do you feel when you literally sabotaged your own imaginary couples story ? But yeah ....
