Mai Ishimaru POV
*Most of this chapter is investigating Akira's disappearance I'm not sure how good I am at detective stories.

I could feel the tension in the room as I confronted the lead detective, my eyes piercing into his soul."What do you mean you think she ran away?" I demanded, my voice laced with frustration. The detective, seemingly unfazed by my questioning, responded with a dismissive tone.

"Isn't it obvious? Akira Tanaka was a troubled girl. She just found out her best friend and brother were hooking up. So she probably ran off somewhere. She's probably fine," he nonchalantly stated. My blood boiled at his callousness.

Turning my attention to Shuichi, the mysterious boy with a cap obscuring his eyes, I sought his opinion. "Saihara , do you agree with this absurd notion?" I inquired, my gaze fixed upon him.

"His opinion doesn't matter. I'm a professional, and I say we close this case.It doesn't matter. She's just some depressed girl," he replied, his response dripping with indifference. My frustration grew, fueling my determination to uncover the truth.

"She's not just any girl, sir," I shot back, my glare piercing through his facade. "Akira is a famous actress and a high schooler. And let's not forget, none of her money was taken. I believe something more sinister has happened."

With each word, I could sense the doubt creeping into the detective's mind. I had planted a seed of curiosity, a seed that would grow into a burning desire to solve the enigma surrounding Akira's disappearance. The investigation was far from over, and I vowed to leave no stone unturned in my quest for the truth.

As Shuichi and I took the bus back to Hopes Peak Academy, the atmosphere between us was tense. I could tell that Shuichi was deliberately avoiding discussing the case, but my sense of justice couldn't be contained.

"Not to insult the lead detective," I began, my voice filled with determination, "but I think he's completely off track with this case."Surprisingly, Shuichi agreed with me, his eyes reflecting his own dissatisfaction.

"I don't like the way he's handling things either," he whispered, his voice laced with defiance. "I've made a copy of the files we have."

My heart raced with a mix of excitement and apprehension. "You could get in serious trouble for this!" I exclaimed, my eyes widening in disbelief. But Shuichi's resolve remained unyielding.

"We have to do something, Mai Mai," he urged, his voice filled with determination.

"Don't call me that!" I snapped, my frustration bubbling to the surface. Silvian had been using that nickname for far too long, and I was fed up with it. But seeing the remorse in Shuichi's eyes, I softened my tone. "It's okay," I sighed, relenting.

That night, Shuichi came over to my dorm room, much to the displeasure of his two boyfriends. We were ready to investigate the case files.

We focused on the people closest to Akira, starting with her best friend. Although we weren't exactly friends, I knew her well enough to believe that she wouldn't harm Akira. Besides, she had been on campus since the day after Christmas, making it unlikely that she had any opportunities to leave.

Moving on, Shuichi and I delved into the interviews with Akira's family. Akuma Tanaka, her father, was in prison at the time of her disappearance, so it seemed unlikely that he was involved. Sakura Tanaka, her mother, confirmed that she was working when her daughter was last seen. This left us with Gundham, the last person known to have seen Akira in person. According to him, they had a disagreement and he ran away.
