It was a cold December morning. The leaves had fallen off the trees and the flowers have closed for the winter.
In a home near by was a family, a father and his 7 kids. These kids often kept to themselves and only were with each other throughout the days. Today however, was not a very good day for any of them. Today was the day they would go visit their mother's grave.
The youngest, Lowell was downstairs with her sister, Lucy as they were watching their morning show. They thought the day was going to be the same as always, they go visit their mother's grave, come home and move on with the day. Today seemed different. Their eldest brother Jessie had gotten in an argument with their father earlier that morning.
Jessie had decided to take them all out without their father and when they came home he was gone.. Their father disappeared for a few years.. finally coming back when Lowell had turned 10.. but he was different. He was not the same man that left 5 years ago and it was made evidently clear he was not doing well.
3 years later they had found out that their father was sick and that he might not live much longer.. She was only 13.
Shortly after this when Lowell turned 16 she dropped out of high school, to get a job and help her brothers with bills since her father could no longer work.
He was lucky. He made it till Lowell turned 18 but she was the only one who went to visit him the day he passed. Before his time came, he gave Lowell a gift. It was two custom dog tags with her mother and fathers names on them and a necklace from her mother and a matching bracelet from him. This was the last thing she received from either parent. That was also the last time she'd see Joshua and Jessie for many years.
Within this time, Luka left for the military when he turned 18, he knew nothing of his fathers passing till he came back when he was 22.
Now in the present time in this book she is 21 caring for her older siblings while trying to keep her own life together.
