The motel keeper had heard what happened and let you stay one night for free.
You had thanked him and went to your room, he also promised you a warm meal and that he'd warn you if any danger came close.
after settling down in your room you were shaking from the pure shock of what just happened only a few hours ago.
Then your thoughts started spinning nonstop. You started to question things.
"...does that mean, everyone is dead?.. No no, there have to be more survivors right? there has to be... no way an entire town just got wiped out... right?.." you muttered under your breath.
You tried calming yourself down but the stress and fear started to consume you. The owner eventually called you down for the food.
You walked downstairs and he gave you the food. "Here, eat up... it's a miracle you survived," he spoke softly.
"More like pure coincidence." You hummed and ate your food.
It was true. If you didn't have that fight with your mother, you'd probably be... yeah... dead.
You shivered as the thought crossed your mind. You were so far in thought that you didn't notice a few men walk into the kitchen. the owner of the motel kinda stood in front of you shielding you from their vision.
"So? You still haven't found anyone who can- wait. Who is she? Did she hear anything?" The tall guy asked.
"No Melvin, she knows nothing. Keep them out of this." The owner said sternly.
You raised your eyebrow. "...know what?"
"Nothing. take our food up to your room and stay there, I need to have a little chat with my "friends" here." he said.
You took the hint to piss off asap and grabbed your plate and did just that.
As you walked back to your room you muttered to yourself "dunno what kinda sketchy shit they doing but it sure as hell ain't my business-" you said and closed the door to your room.
After finishing your meal you brought your plate back downstairs and heard the 3 men still talking.
"I didn't risk my skin for this info just so that you won't find anyone who can hack into it and sell the damn stick!" Melvin said annoyed at the owner.
He sighed "Look, I've been busy alright, but it's not like we can walk up to someone and be like "Hey wanna help us sell this stolen info from the government?"."
The smaller guy sighed, "They are on our tail, we need to get rid of this thing now. Besides who would say no to some quick cash? I mean come on, it's 5k for just dropping a flesh drive off somewhere and hack into a few systems here and there."
"Adam, it ain't that easy. It's not like we have someone who can do that." The owner sighed annoyed.
Adam frowned at the owner "Well then, Carl, you better find us someone quick before they catch us all."
you couldn't believe it, 5k for just that? Oh and the fact that the motel keeper and his friends were criminals.
But that 5k... that was some money you could use. It wasn't the most legal thing, but if it's just a one-time thing, what the hell?
You stepped in and waved, "I can help you 3 with that."
They all turned to you, "You can hack?" Adam asked and raised his eyebrow.
"What can I say, I'm a bored teen whose life is the internet." You said.
Melvin nodded "Fair enough."
The owner looked more worried. "Are you sure you want to do this? Once you're in, there's no going back."
You hesitated for a second but then realized this would be the best way and the fastest to make money. besides, if you ever got caught, they wouldn't do anything bad. I mean, you're just a teen after all. Right?- yeah probably.
"hell yeah, you need someone to do- whatever it is you just said and I need the money, so let's help each other out," You said.
The owner sighed, "Alright, it's your choice."
"I'll grab my laptop and get to work seeing as you were in a hurry." You said.
And with that being said, your journey of making money began. Sure it wasn't legal but you were a homeless teen with no family but your sister but have no idea where in the world she is.
Fast forward a few months and you are practically rolling in your hard-earned money.
It felt good, you didn't worry about money anymore. And those guys who you helped out, they repaid you by buying you a vault to stash your money in.
You got to pick the location so even they wouldn't know where it was.
Everything went smoothly until one day. Your laptop got hacked and someone opened a chat.
"Found ya!" The person's message said.
"Wait wtf is this? Did someone just fucking hack my- wait no no no, my info is on here-" You thought to yourself.
"Hehe, y/n l/n. Nice to meet ya." The person said again. "Long story short. You're in deep shit."
You typed back, "nuh-uh!"
He responded with, "The fuck you mean NUH-UH?!"
You sighed "Fuck... this is bad. They have access to all my info. gotta get em out of my system before they see the money, transactions, everything!"
You cleared your data and started typing away to get this pesky rat out of your system.
"ha! Take that mother fucker, you ain't got shit on me." You said with a cocky grin.
But oh how wrong you were... Little did you know, they had your location, and you didn't seem too bothered to leave.
But it's not like they'd actually come to you right? No no, probably just some other hacker trying to scare you. Right?
