Ash pov:
I go to the bar to buy new drinks and look around for Rachel. I notice she and that guy are no longer sitting at the corner table. If she leaves with him without informing me, I will address the issue with her. I check my phone, and there are no fresh texts. I text her, "Where the hell are you?"
If I don't hear back within an hour, she should expect me to be upset. What if something happens to her while I am not present? I return to the table and the handsome brunette guy I've been flirting with. I am not seeking a committed relationship and prefer casual encounters for enjoyment.
Rachel pov:
I sit at the opposite end of the couch, which is a red three-seater velvet couch that is really comfortable. His study has a bookshelf on one side, a painting on the opposite wall, and dark gray curtains. His desk is antique-looking, and his laptop sits on top of it. His stare is making me nervous. "Considering what happened this evening, I hope you will be more open to listening to the deal I am proposing to you." I called him a whack job the last time he made me a deal, and if it hadn't been for his guards rescuing me, I'm not sure what those men would have done. I shiver as a chill runs down my spine, realizing I could have died tonight with my family unaware of my fate.
"You said last time you knew I was a carrier; what makes me one?" I ask him. "First, your bloodline, the Blackwells, descended from a lengthy line of carrier ancestors. Second, each carrier has a distinct aroma, and you have that scent. The traditional legend passed down in our family is real; my ancestor was the first carrier. "Why do you want me specifically?" I want to know. "Werewolves have been slaughtering your kind for hundreds of years. Making you the first carrier I've seen in years, the wolves have been able to reach your kind before us.
That indicates you are currently the only active carrier, making you valuable." Because I am valuable, I may expect to receive a good deal out of this as well. "What is your proposal?" I'm not going to simply accept the arrangement that will allow me to escape and return to my family. "Like I stated the first time, I want you to carry and bear me an heir; the child will remain with me. In exchange, I will treat your brother's ailments and restore him to full health, as well as provide you with safety and a large quantity of money." That is the deal I'm offering.
He discusses carrying a child and passing it over as a business transaction. It feels cold and impersonal; I anticipated having children when I was married or at least engaged. "Will the child be half human, half vampire?" I'm intrigued about that. "No, children born from carriers are fully vampires." That means I'll be pregnant with a tiny monster, but it'll still be my child, and I'm not sure if I can just leave my baby behind and never see them again." Well, if that's enough questions, it's late now. Go have a good night's rest and think about my proposition; I'd like an answer tomorrow. As he concludes the conversation, he stands up, crosses the room, opens the door, and Alec enters.
Alec will lead you back to your room. I walked back to the room with Alec, and he handed me my purse as I was at the door. "We found this at the bar; your phone has been ringing nonstop." Ash must be worried; I never depart without informing him of my whereabouts.
Dante pov:
I text Alec to come get the female, and I also tell him to keep a watch on her because I suspect she will try to escape . After they have departed, I phone Lee, who answers after a few rings. "Well, to what do I have the honor of you calling me so late at night?" I rolled my eyes. Lee may be considered a playboy, but many people make the mistake of believing that is all he is.
If you aren't careful near him, he will trap and murder you. "I need you to do something for me." I already have security at the carrier's house, and I've put in extra guards for the mansion while she's here. No werewolf will be allowed near her. The report stated that she had a best friend, and I assumed she would be more likely to assist if I also safeguarded him. "It must be serious if you are calling me." Lee's tone is humorous, and he is the only one who gets away with mocking me.
"I need you to keep an eye on the carrier's best friend. I will send you all the information regarding him." Aside from my knights, is Lee the only other person I'd trust with this? "I will handle it, but I expect a favor in return when the time comes." I hang up, grab myself a glass of whiskey, and wait for the little bunny to move.
Rachel pov:
I contacted Ash, and he screamed before calming down. I was also told he was going to kick my ass. I lied and told him I was in a coffee shop, getting to know my date, and forgot to contact him. It's not like I can tell him I was kidnapped by werewolves and then rescued by vampires; he'll book me in a mental facility, convinced I've gone insane.
I glance around the room and locate linens in the chest of drawers. I go to the balcony and look down; it appears that I am just one floor up, so it shouldn't take too many sheets to form a rope. I start tying them together, and once I have enough, I turn off all the lights and slowly creep towards the balcony. I tie the sheets around one of the pillars and slowly lower them to the ground to avoid making a mistake.
I look around and see no guards, so I use that as my cue to toss my leg over the railing, then pull my other leg around, reach for the sheets, and start lowering myself down. I descend carefully, and as soon as my feet touch the earth, I turn around again and see no one. I hurry quickly and softly across the lawn to the nearest trees, looking for a route over the wall.
Further down, I see a tree that crosses the wall and proceeds towards it. When I hear a noise, I hide behind a bush and try to keep my breathing controlled. I spot two guards passing by and wait for them to turn the corner before returning to the three. I am so nervous that my heart is thumping in my chest. My palms are sweaty, but I approach the tree and take another look around. I acquire a good foothold and insert my foot, using my arms to lift myself up. Suddenly, arms around my waist yank me back, and I land on a rock-hard chest. Looking up, I came face to face with Dante. "Going somewhere, little rabbit?" Before I can respond, he swiftly lifts me over his shoulder and strides back towards the castle, not allowing me a moment to react.
