September was approaching, but the weather was still hot. The stinging rays of the sun, which rose high in the early morning, were already hurting my eyes.

Koi rode his bike to school like always. In the past, whenever he went back to school after vacation, he couldn't stand the feeling of depression. There was nothing enjoyable about going to school, he tried his best to avoid the Nelson gang that was bullying him, and all he did was move from class to class alone amidst everyone's indifference.

But it was different now.

"Hello, Koi!"

"Hi, Sarah!"

A student in the same class spoke first. Koi also greeted me warmly. In the past, this would have been unimaginable.

We parked our bikes in the designated spot and exchanged greetings a few more times while heading to our lockers. Koi is different from before. He was much more confident and natural. Of course, it was all thanks to Ashley that this happened.

As I was organizing my locker, I felt a noisy atmosphere coming from one direction. Koi turned his head reflexively and immediately smiled brightly. Ashley was walking with other guys from the ice hockey team.

The noisy children, the passionate gaze towards them, and the relaxed atmosphere of the team were all the same as before the vacation. But Koiman was different. I didn't avoid them like I used to, or hide in a corner and brood over my envy. I'm just looking for the right moment to close the locker door and say hello.

There was a burst of laughter as if someone had made a joke. Ashley, who was laughing together, suddenly turned her head. Immediately, Koi's eyes met, and Koi secretly raised one of her hands and waved it. Ashley's eyes narrowed more and her smile grew wider. Koi also smiled and then turned around first.

As I was walking towards the building where I would take my first class, a moment later I heard footsteps running behind me.

"Koy!"

"Wow!"

Koi screamed as his shoulder was suddenly grabbed. When she raised her head, it was, of course, Ashley. Ashley hugged his shoulders with her thick arms and rubbed Koy's bushy hair with her free hand.

"Don't do it, I told you not to!"

Koi shouted urgently, but Ashley just laughed.

"That's because you're leaving alone."

Koi glanced at his mild criticism.

"We meet in the classroom anyway, because we take the same classes. ... ... Plus, you look like you're having fun with your friends."

I wanted to hide my true feelings, but I ended up brushing them off without thinking. To Koi, who was momentarily taken aback, Ashley made a meaningful noise, "Hmm," and then explained in a casual way.

"We were talking about that because now we're going to start training again."

Well, even if you said that, you wouldn't be able to have a conversation with me.

It's unfortunate, but there's nothing we can do. Koi agreed, but soon became distracted by something else.

"It's heavy, let go."

Ashley was still walking with one arm around Koy's shoulder. When I grumbled on purpose, Ashley chuckled and then she answered.

"Nope."

Koi groaned at the pointless teasing and tried to remove his arm, but it was too heavy. It didn't end there. Ashley tightened her arms and pulled her koi's neck towards her.
