It was starting to get dark and Ryan would be lying if he said that he didn't think it beautiful. The sky turned into a deep shade of bloody red. John and Ryan were lying next to each other, their backs leaning against the tree. They had broken pieces of grass in their hands, being washed by the water so much that it was no longer sharp.

They were throwing them into the lake, watching whose shred will get further. Ryan's legs hurt from the cuts and the wind made his arms wounds sting. He envied John in this way, for his body was without a cut now. It made the blond guy wonder if the other one was injured in the first place at all. Or maybe... Maybe he just hurt his head so badly. Maybe the animal really tried to help him, lead him to his friend. That didn't mean that this place made him any less uncomfortable. This place just didn't feel right.

Ryan's mind was elsewhere, his body relaxed as he listened to humming from who he thought was John. He watched as the glass skipped over the lake and how the dark orb burned the water from the sky. He was leaning his head against John's shoulder, breathing slowly.

It was peaceful, a calm before the storm.

Ryan's eyes were caught by a slight motion in the water, he straightened up his back, highly aware and awake. It was kind of eerie, the calm humming in the back all the while the dread slowly crept up Ryan's back, the fear of the unknown. John probably didn't notice yet, lost in his head.

The blonds pupils glazed across the surface, looking for any sort of movement. He was fighting himself between needing to go see it closer on grabbing his friend and pulling them both away.

And then he saw it, two dark bulges, deep under the water, as if the ink was punctured into them, wet and unblinking. His breathing hitched in his throat, frozen in place. It felt like an eternity, his soul burning in his body. The creature, whatever it was, was so utterly disgusting it made Ryan's skin crawl.

He was brought back to reality - haha, the irony - by a stone falling exactly on the place he was staring at, waking the water from its calm state.

He sharply turned his head to look at the intruder. It was as if he was woken up himself. Colors filled his vision and he was met with a bubbly laugh. "Jesus mate, you look like you've seen a ghost!"

Ryan looked away, ashamed and nervous. "John, I think we should go back," he started, then his voice dropped to whisper. "there's something in the water."

John raised his eyebrow as if the taller man was crazy. "Ryan, stop panicking." He snickered. "You probably just saw your reflection. God knows you look horrible."

Ryan looked away, grumbling. John shook his head, a soft smile on his face, he took another soft stone and showed it to his friend. "Look, I'm sure it was nothing. Maybe you're just tired." He said lightly. Ryan closed his eyes, feeling them burning, and he nodded,  John is right, he is always right. I am probably just tired. Who knows how long I didn't sleep, I did have some trouble sleeping for some time.

The brunette pulls him up by his hand. "'Know what? I will climb into the water, and show you there's nothing to worry about, m'kay? I wanted to go swimming anyway." The brown eyes immediately bored into the smaller man in panic. "No!" He screamed. "No...," he repeated more calmly. "That won't be necessary. I believe you. You're right. That, that was just my brain making stuff up. You know how I am. Haha." He chuckled nervously, his eyes tearing up again,  goddamit why are my eyes tearing up?!  He took a deep breath. "How about we just... Throw some more stones?" He asked putting on a fake smile.

The smaller man brightened up, eyes shining and smile so wide it looked like it could tear his face in half.  Slowly, and painfully tearing the pieces of meat apart and pulling until they would crack. From the corner of his thin lips, following the trail of his sharp adult teeth and jaw, through his cheeks all the way to his ear.  Ryan shook his head quickly, shaking away these horrible thoughts.
