Chapter 4: Enlistment Time!

It was the end of the day on Friday and everyone was anxious to hear the draft results. They were going to announce them over the speakers during the last period.
Finally, the time had come. Time to announce the draft results. As soon as the speaker came on everyone went immediately silent. Ally listened closely to the principal as he began to speak.

"Hello everyone, I know that today is not a good day. For anyone. This isn't easy for me to even just say these names. I can't bear to see kids go off to fight in a war especially one they didn't even start, but I must announce these names. The people who were chosen from the draft are Emery ——, Alex ——, Jack ——, —— ——, —— ——, —— ——, —— ——, —— ——, —— ——, and —— ——." (Principal)

Ally's mind went blank. Every single person that was called was a friend of Ally's. She clenched her fists. She couldn't just stand by while she watched her friends go to war and possibly not come back. She jumped out of her seat and ran out the door of the classroom. She was running through the halls heading to the front office.
Kael, Ashton, and Caleb all had their last period together down the hall from Ally's. They saw a glimpse of something out of the classroom door window.

"Hold on! Was that Ally?" (Ashton)

"I think it was." (Kael)

"Why would she be running in the halls though-" (Caleb)

"Yeah, kind of convenient that she's running after Principal Evan just announced the draft results-" (Ashton)

"Wait- you don't think-" (Kael)

"No way. No way. Crap." (Ashton)

"Everyone that was called were her friends I think." (Caleb)

"Well then we have to go after her!" (Kael)

Ashton and Caleb both nodded in agreement. They all got up and started running after Ally to the front office.
Ally finally got to the front office. She took a second to catch her breath. Then she did the inevitable.

"I volunteer! I volunteer to enlist!" (Ally)

The office lady stood shocked staring at Ally.

"Y-You v-volunteer-?" (Front office lady)

"Yes! I volunteer! Let me take someone else's spot!" (Ally)

Then Ashton, Kael, and Caleb all showed up behind Ally.

"If she's volunteering then we are too!" (Ashton)

Ally looked behind her with a surprised look.

"What are you guys doing here-? You can't be serious-!" (Ally)

Before Ally could finish her sentence Kael stopped her.

"Did you really think we were going to let you do this by yourself?" (Kael)

"Yeah, I mean we may not be the best friends, but we're not that bad!" (Caleb)

Ally looked at them all with still a stunned face. She finally let her face soften up and turned back to the office lady.

"Alright then. Let's do this! We all want to volunteer for enlistment." (Ally)

"A-Are you all sure?" (Front office lady)

"Absolutely." (Kael)

"Alright then, here I need you to all sign here and get a family member signature that is older than 18." (Front office lady)

They all received the paper and walked out of the office.

"You guys really didn't have to do that for me..." (Ally)

"Hey don't be like that. It's fine we all were talking about joining the military one day anyway. This just means we get to do it earlier." (Ashton)

"And now we get to do it with you as well." (Kael)

"Yeah speaking about that, why would you enlist yourself Ally? I thought you didn't want to join the military?" (Caleb)

"Well I never really thought about it before, but hearing all of my friends names being called, I don't know, I guess it kind of just sparked a flame in me and I didn't even think." (Ally)

"You know you can probably still get out of this if you want to?" (Kael)

"No! I'm doing this! I already volunteered and I'm not letting anymore of my friends get enlisted." (Ally)

The three guys all laughed at Ally.

"Got quite the enthusiasm there, don't ya?" (Ashton)

Ally laughed a little as well.

"Heh, I guess so." (Ally)

They continued to laugh while walking back to their classes.
