PROLOGUE
The Origin Of A StarThe universe nearly tore apart when Maya Vien Knight was born. She wasn't supposed to be born, it wasn't a part of the universe's script. The "last time lord" wasn't supposed to have a child. Yet with everything between time and space, this shouldn't have been perceived as impossible.
Maya was now seven years old, and she was trying to sleep. Her mum had tucked her in one hour ago, but she couldn't fall asleep. There were images that flashed into her brain. It looked like things from a sci-fi movie or show. There was a blue police box that could travel through space. She had the urge to tell her mum, but she didn't want her to shake her head and dismiss her.
Maya saw this thing, a robot alien or something that looked like it was an extreme version of R2-D2.
Maya laid on her back, pushing herself up off the bed and sitting on the small ledge inside her room which was propped underneath the window sill. She looked out at the stars with a small smile on her face. There was something out there, something bigger than what the rest of the human race knew, and while she wasn't sure about telling others, she was determined to one day prove it to herself.
Ada walked into her daughter's room, crossing her arms when she saw the seven-year old out of her bed. Maya was too busy analysing each star she could see to notice her mum staring at her with a bittersweet look on her face. Ada knew Maya would one day become like her dad, much to her dismay. Ada didn't want Maya to go through the same things.
One thing was for certain: Maya Vien Knight was a curious child of the cosmos.
Ada quietly watched her daughter, wishing on any star in the galaxy that could make it easier on her and Maya.
"Maya..." Ada trailed off quietly.
Maya jumped at the sudden voice as she was lost in a different world her own mind had altered for her. "Mum." Maya realised.
"Maya, go back to bed."
Maya crawled into her bed. "There, I went back to bed." Maya sassed lightly.
Ada folded her arms over chest. "Some days you are too much like your dad." She whispered to herself.
Maya looked up at her mum, hesitating for a second, "mum, what was dad like?"
Ada looked outside through the window instead of at Maya. A small part of her wished she could just tell Maya the truth. "He always said things with sass and sarcasm. ... he believed in aliens, time travel, and he loved space. He had hope for things in life that no one could even fathom. And you, my sweet girl, are like a mini version of him." Ada said vaguely.
Ada lightly kissed the top of Maya's head, walking away. Before she could turn the lights back off, Maya spoke up. "Do you think dad would like me?" Maya wondered quietly.
Ada smiled. "He'd love you. And believe me, the only reason he isn't here right now is to protect you." Ada told her, turning the lights off and walking out of the room.
The second Ada went to her room, she closed the door and grabbed the small box and sat on her bed. She opened up the box to reminisce about the old days. Ada smiled sadly, wishing she could just have help from someone for once. She loved Maya with her entire heart and would burn down the world for her, but Maya could be a handful of energy, spiraling, sidetracking, and saying her intrusive thoughts aloud.
Unfortunately, when Ada's mother and father found out about her being pregnant with a man, out of wedlock, they flipped. The whole family disowned her from the family tree. That twist in fate made Ada realise she didn't want to raise Maya the way she was raised. She unlearned as much as she possibly could.
Eventually, Ada fell asleep at around the same time of which Maya was not.
Maya sat at the small wooden desk she had. She took out the pen and paper and started sketching some of the aliens she saw. If anyone saw them, she could play it off as her imagination. Who was she kidding, she had no friends and her family abandoned them.
The sun started rising, and Maya hadn't really slept that much. Ada walked into Maya's room, furrowing her brows, "darling, did you even sleep?"
Maya shook her head.
Ada sighed, "breakfast will be ready in a few."
Little did she know those aliens were very much real. What she did now was that she was going to find her dad, no matter how long it took.
Maya inherited the doctor's sass
She's obsessed with stars and she is amazing
Okay, bye!
