Male reader as Dante Caddel.
Opening his eyes in the morning always felt like a chore. Especially when things in his life felt more like the passage of time than actual days or weeks. He'd been awake since 3 in the morning due to his nightmares and stayed up mindlessly scrolling through his phone while listening to music the next three hours before attempting to fall asleep again.
No dice.
Dante let out a groan as his alarm blared in his ears. He hadn't even gotten enough sleep and now he was supposed to be up and be "productive" as society demanded.
Or at least just earn enough to keep himself alive.
After what felt like hours,Dante finally threw the covers off himself, letting his shirtless form receive some kind of air. Scratching his head slowly, he managed to get off his bed, slowly trudging towards the bathroom.
Once he got to his bathroom mirror, he looked at himself; his hair was all over the place and he could feel the bags under his eyes.
At 19 years old, life already felt bleak for the boy. He was dangerously close to flunking out of college and his father made it abundantly clear that he wouldn't pay the expenses of a kid who was "Joking around with his studies", so he pulled out and stopped paying Dante's tuition and pretty much all other things. The kid was on his own so he had no choice but to get a job, not just to keep himself in school but to keep himself from starving to death.
Though at this point, Dante wondered if that would be such a bad thing.
After taking a shower and brushing his teeth, the boy threw on a red hoodie and his least faded pair of black jeans, coupled with a pair of regular vans. He was heading out of his apartment when his eyes fell on his laptop on his coffee table and the snowball mic sitting next to it.
Music...
He gave a small sad smile before shaking his head and heading out the door.

His shift at Walmart wasn't all that eventful as he had to unfortunately be polite to strangers who'd probably treat him with varying degrees of respect. If it wasn't for the music and the company of his favourite coworker Maverick, Dante would've probably lost his mind the first month. He sighed as he got through with another customer, a grouchy old man at that. The lack of sleep was finally kicking in and eyes were getting heavy despite the music playing in his right airpod. He had the right one on while Maverick had the left.. currently they were bumping some rapper named NF. Maverick had put Dante on to him and honestly he was pretty dope. They usually traded music recommendations; while Maverick was more of a metal fan, Dante was a hip-hop fan. An unlikely but dynamic duo. Being around Mav had opened Dante's eyes to the world of metal. Bands like Alter Bridge, Slackjaw and Killswitch Engage were now on his radar and he'd be lying if he said he didn't enjoy them.
Alas, the music only managed to ease a fraction of his torture. Dante once again let out another sigh; he just needed to get past this shift without succumbing to his desires of falling asleep... or punching the next rude customer in the face.
Maverick noticed his friend was starting to doze off so he threw a piece of paper at him, gaining his attention.
"Stay strong, man" Maverick mouthed to him once Dante turned to look at him. If he wasn't so tired, he would've mouthed back "I'm trying"
