When Rainbow woke up, he was lying across some uncomfortable surface in total darkness. When he tried to pull himself up, his limbs felt like jelly, and his head hurt like nobody's business. He groaned softly in the dark, confused.

"Hello-? Blue...?" His mind swam with the last things to happen to him. He and Blue were fighting Dark, and...he remembered his head slamming onto a rock. He remembered the pang, and then...nothing else. His mind flashed with random images of being held up high, Blue underneath him, but he couldn't connect the images to any defining memory or moment. "Hello?" He called again.

Suddenly, the room was illuminated with unnatural bright light. "Agh!!" Rainbow covered his eyes immediately, shielding himself from the sight. He glanced carefully through the gaps in between his fingers and saw someone bend down, glancing at him.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to just leave you on the counter like that. Can't be comfortable." He could barely register the words before a pair of arms lifted him up. He didn't fight it, letting his arms fall down and squinting his eyes shut. "Too bright? Here."

The lights dimmed, taking on a level of brightness that Rainbow could handle. He opened his eyes slowly. "Nice, huh? Look at my cool lights. They cycle through the rainbow when they feel like it."

"That's cool..." Rainbow looked up and was met with a pair of orange and black goggles, and the smell of sheep.

"I know right?" Professor Red grinned. He carried Rainbow through dark halls, and Rainbow wondered what time it was, since it seemed like the Professor didn't have many windows. Did he even sleep?

Rainbow was placed on a couch. He noticed Blue lying next to him, and froze at the sight of a deep wound with messy stitches at his side."Blue...?"

The Professor sat down on a chair facing the couch. "Yeah, he got messed up. Worse than you. Do you not remember? I mean, with a head wound like yours, I guess I wouldn't put minor memory loss past you."

"I- oh Origin..." Rainbow raised a hand to his forehead, gingerly touching a large bruise. "And Blue brought me here?"

"Yeah. I had to fix both of you up. Aren't I a saint?"

"Yeah..." Rainbow frowned. "For sure, man."

The two were silent for a while. Rainbow was still fighting a headache, and the professor was kicking his legs around absentmindedly, eyes focused on the carpet.

"So. What happened to Purple?"

Rainbow brought his knees to his chest. "I, um...I lost him. He went off to explore, and then I found Blue, and..." his eyes focused on the floor guiltily. "I'm sorry. I should've looked for him, or...I don't know."

Professor Red pinched the bridge of his nose. It's not like he cared much for Purple, but he was the cause of his unfortunate state. Not being able to get that fixed felt like an unfinished project, and that pissed him off. "It's fine. I mean, it's really not, I'm sure you're very worried, but whatever. Maybe he can live the rest of his days very happily and comfortably as a chicken."

Rainbow groaned. "He'd hate me if I just let that happen..." he glanced at the door. "Maybe I should just go look for him. Maybe he went back through the portal and found his way back here?"

"Rainbow, listen. Number one, the odds of that are incredibly low. You think he'd make it through the nether so easily?" Professor Red gave him a pitiful look. Rainbow really didn't know when to stop. The short steve seemed aware of that, evident in his tired, knowing frown. "And number two, you're not leaving. You've got a concussion, and unlike in movies, it's not gonna be magically cured after sleeping. You're probably gonna be woozy for a few days."
