Chapter 8: Awkward Gifts

As they finish the last JJ movie, Y/N stretches out their arms. "I really like Atomic Lass." This caught Donnie's attention as Atomic Lass is also his favorite character. April had been scrolling on her phone looking up wiki pages on Jupiter Jim fun facts, when she came across a convention that was being held in town this upcoming weekend. "Hey guys! There's a convention coming up this weekend! We should all go!" She announces excitedly. Everyone got excited, Mikey was jumping up and down on the couch. Raph and Leo were flapping their hands fanboying, Donnie was already clearing everyone's schedule. Y/N looked to April with a big smile but signed, 'I don't have a costume, what do I do?' April signed back, 'Don't worry, I got just the thing!' As the week went on April and Y/N talked and planned their fun weekend with the boys at the convention. The four brothers went as the alien reptile invaders, obviously, April went as the reliable side kick Red Fox. Y/N, thanks to April's encouragement, went as Atomic Lass. 

They all decided to meet at the convention center, Y/N tells April to wait for them as they do a few small touch ups on their cosplay. The turtles show up and find April waiting outside one of the bathrooms. "Hey April! Nice Ms. Fox costume, where's Y/N?" Raph asks giving April a high-five. "They're in the bathroom doing a few last-minute touch ups, they should be out any moment." Just as she said that Y/N walks out around the corner of the bathroom, wearing a blue and purple skintight jumpsuit, neon green spiked wig. They even were able to get some prescription green colored contact lenses, to make the cosplay as accurate as possible. "Oh Me Gosh!! You look amazing!!!" Mikey says excitedly, stars in his eyes. "Sick outfit Hermana!" Leo exclaims giving them a smooth whistle. Leo takes a few steps back holding his hands out, as if to take picture. "We're looking good y'all!" Y/N smiles nervously, standing closed off-ish, softly scratching the inside of their forearm. "T-Thanks you guys" Y/N says sincerely, a soft blush on their cheeks.

Donnie had just been staring at Y/N in awe a small blush on his face as well. April teasingly shoulder bumps him snapping him back to reality. "Careful, someone might slip on all that drool Dee." She laughs quietly, Donnie shakes his head and scoffs to April's teasing. "I was just admiring the authenticity they put into their outfit, nothing more." He says defensively, crossing his arms. April's 'Crush Alarm' goes off inside her head, she smiles mischievously. As they all walk around together, Leo and Mikey spot the Jupiter Jim actor Marcus Moncrief. The pair run off to gush over their favorite actor, who was also in costume. April and Raph looked at each other, then over to Donnie and Y/N, the two had been talking awkwardly together with a few muffled laughs. April and Raph shared a look, "We are going to go check out the food court!" April announced to the pair. "Don't cause any trouble you two!" Raph added, they quickly walked away leaving Y/N and Donnie alone together. Realizing this they both took a step away rubbing the back of their necks shyly. They began to walk side by side around the convention center in silence. Walking past an open door leading into a much larger room, Y/N stops and stares into the room, Donnie notices after a few steps. "What are you looking at?" He asks over their shoulder, this makes Y/N jump a little. "Oh, uh, this looks like a dealer's room. You know, where they have booths and sell stuff?" They say timidly. "Intriguing, doesn't look too crowded. Perhaps we can take look around?" Donnie offers subtly. Y/N nods, they show their con badges to door security and enter the room. Walking around weaving through the small groups of other cosplayers, they examine each of the booths. They find many interesting things, most pretty obscene. Together they laugh and mock at it all. A booth of tech gadgets caught Donnie's eye, he walked over and began discussing in dept with the vendor. While he was distracted Y/N tried to sneak away to another booth, Donnie knew though and took the opportunity to buy a few things in secret. They both bought several things for the group. They are both so alike is painfully cute.

Later on, after the con, everyone meets back up at the lair. All talking about their favorite part of the day, Mikey found a group of skaters to do tricks with, Leo was gushing over actor of J.J Marcus Moncrief. Raph found a booth full of cute soft plushies, but got scared after seeing a jump rainbow rabbit known as Mrs. Cuddles, doll. April went around applying for jobs at all the different booths, mean while both Donnie and Y/N had stayed quiet. "C'mon you two! What was y'alls favorite part of the convention?" April asks eagerly. Y/N and Donnie looked in opposite directions, neither one wanting to speak first. "I just... really enjoyed our time out together as a group." Y/N finally spoke up nervously. "I concur, our time together was.... enjoyable." Donnie added. April and Leo gave each other a look and Leo dramatically laid across Y/N and Donnie's laps, one hand on his chest the other flamboyantly laid against his forehead. "Oh, how I wish we could've bought souvenirs!" Simultaneously both Y/N and Donnie said. "Actually, I grab something for everyone." Only then do Donnie and Y/N actually look at each other, and with the same surprised expression. Leo gives a muffled snicker, to which Donnie shoves him off causing him to land on the floor with a loud thud.

Donnie's gifts were practical and over analyzed as ' The Perfect Gift' for each of his brothers, April and even Y/N. Y/N's gifts were more heart felt and touching. The one way they were different, giving gifts to those they care about. The three brothers were confused on how Donnie had the money to buy anything but were too excited by their presents to question him. After passing out gifts and everyone was chatting, April got a text, she needed to go home. "I'll walk you out!" Y/N offers smiling, they get up and walk out the lair. "I'll see you guys' next time!" April calls down from above before she closes the manhole, Y/N waves her goodbye. As Y/N walks back through the sewer to the lair they see Donnie, leaning against the wall with his arms cross, hands fidgeting nervously." Oh, hey did you need something Donnie?" Y/N asks curiously giving him a warm smile. Donnie stands straight, his face slightly blushes, he's thankfully Y/N won't be able to see it due to the back lighting. He coughs into his fist, without look at Y/N he asks. "Could you follow me into my lab?" He scratches the inside of his forearm anxiously.
