Both families had arrived at the lake house by exactly eight. Brooklyn’s jaw dropped as she stared wide-eyed at it as the Woods looked in awe.

“Daddy!” she shrieked. Blake looked at her as if she had grown two heads, but chose to ignore him.
“What is it, honey?” her dad asked happily. Too happy as a matter of fact.
“You never told me we were staying at this lake house! There’s only one room here! How are we all supposed to fit?”
Blake, confused, turned his full attention on Chris Campbell. Her dad slightly fidgeted under both their gazes, before straightening as her mom nudged him. Brooklyn narrowed her eyes at them suspiciously.
“You see, honey, we, including Peter and Amanda, have decided to let you and Blake stay here for the rest of the summer break. By yourselves.”
“What?!” she yelled incredulously. Blake could do nothing but gape and look at her father as if he were speaking a whole different language.
“Well, Brook dear, we know how you and my son here have some… tensions between you two, so we’ve decided to let you fix those. We’ll visit of course.” Blake’s mom reassured.
“Indeed,” her mom agreed.
“But, but…” she tried to reason, but failed to think of any plausible excuse.
“Well! I think that’s all. Ah yes! Here’s 5000 dollars. I take it this is enough?” her dad said, handing her the thick wad of money.
“And here’s yours, Blake,” Peter hands him the money.
“But how are we supposed to go out? This place is in the middle of nowhere! No offense, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell. And the nearest diner or whatever is probably 30 to 40 minutes away from here,” Blake whined. As usual.
Pathetic, Blake. Really pathetic. How he managed to be the most popular guy at campus, I’ll never know.
“I’m sure you’ll figure that out on your own,” his mom said, winking as she did so.
Brooklyn fought off the urge to scoff in disgust and just smiled, which looked more like a grimace. Blake looked the same, looking horrified and grossed out at the same time.
“Well I guess we’ll be leaving you two kids now. If you need anything, call us. There’s food inside, so you don’t need to worry about that for now. Emergency numbers are on the fridge. Bye kids!” her dad clapped his hands together enthusiastically.
“Get along, okay?” Blake’s mother warned, mostly at him rather than her though.
Blake glared but nodded his head.
“We’ll check on you two next week,” his dad said before going back inside their car. Amanda smiled before kissing his son on the cheek and hugging Brooklyn. Her mom did the same before waving goodbye.
And just like that, their parents left.
Blake groaned loudly, turning to glare at her. She glared back.
“I can’t believe I’m stuck here with you!” he said as he angrily picked up his luggage.
“Well it’s not like I wanna be stuck here with you too! Who would want to be trapped with you in the middle of nowhere for two months?” she retorted, resisting the urge to pounce on him and punch him in the face.
“Uh, everyone? You should even feel honored that you’d get the chance to live with me. This opportunity doesn’t pass by often,” he smugly said, smirking as he did so.
Brooklyn gaped at him, but then glared as she felt her temper rising.
The nerve of this guy to even say such a thing! How… How dare this asshole!
“Excuse me? Honored? Why should I when I’m living with the biggest jerk on the planet? And this is my parents’ lake house, meaning it’s partly mine. So technically, you’re living with me. Get it?” she finished, feeling immensely satisfied as the smirk was wiped off his face and was replaced by a scowl.
She scoffed and grabbed her luggage before strutting towards the house, smirking. She heard him mutter something along the lines of “Stupid bitch…” and “Wait until I get my revenge…”. She ignored him and tried to think of ways on how to avoid him. She’s not scared of him or anything like that, but still, distance is what she wanted.
“Again, this going to be hell…” she sighed.
