Ella's Perspective

Outside, it got dark. The sun set, and the moon emerged. It was a full moon. I found it fascinating how it strengthened my powers every time it shone fully in the sky. It might sound crazy, but yes, I have a special power—the power of fire. It's such that fire completely obeys me and cannot harm me. I discovered this when I was 17. It was more of an accident than intention. It was a hot summer day, so my best friend Scarlett Mizura was with me at the beach. As we started our way back, we spotted something glowing in the sand. It was hard to miss since it was already relatively dark, and the luminous object was shining brightly. We walked towards it, and it turned out to be just a chain with a stone. It was a ruby, emitting a radiant light. Curious, I bent down and picked it up. I kept it with me for the time being, and when no one claimed it after a year, it became mine.

Since then, not much has happened for a long time. Scarlett promised not to tell anyone about the incident, and through experimenting with burning things with my bare hands, I found out I could control fire. However, after a while, Scarlett started acting strangely. She seemed somehow jealous, but when I confronted her about it, she freaked out. Since then, we voluntarily haven't exchanged a word. I found a new friend: Luke Ravenscroft. After some time, I confided in him about my secret, and unlike Scarlett, he found it quite exciting. However, he didn't want to be able to do it himself because it was too dangerous for him. Should I ever need help, though, he would always be there to support me. He promised me that. At first, I doubted it, but now I know I can trust him completely.

Luke brought me back to reality. "Hey, Ella! Watch out! Your marshmallow is already done." he warned me. I looked up. "Oh, shit!" Quickly, I pulled the stick with the marshmallow out of the fire. We were camping in the woods and had decided to make a campfire. "Is everything okay?" Luke asked. You could hear from his tone that he was concerned. "Lately, you've been mentally elsewhere and barely paying attention to your surroundings. What's going on? Did something happen?" I remained silent for a moment to come up with an answer. Lately, I had noticed that my powers were diminishing, and they were getting weaker. Sometimes the fire didn't appear at all. However, I knew that if I told Luke about it, he would only worry more. So, I decided on the spot to lie to him. "No, everything's fine." I saw Luke's doubtful expression and immediately felt guilty, but I still chose not to backtrack and stuck to keeping my problem to myself. "As you say..." He shrugged, but it was evident that he didn't believe me.

It was late at night when I was suddenly awakened by a sound. I sat up and saw Luke quietly leaving the tent. Slowly, I got up and followed him cautiously. It was dark outside, and the moon was covered by clouds. Luke walked into the forest, and I conjured a flame in the palm of my hand to illuminate the path ahead. I made sure to be as inconspicuous as possible and stealthily trailed him. We approached a clearing when suddenly I felt a piercing pain on my wrist. I bit my lower lip and tried to ignore the pain, but it only got worse. I slowed down until I finally came to a stop. With every step, Luke moved farther away from me. I felt blood running down my hand, dripping onto the forest floor. I dropped to my knees and started coughing up blood. Breathing became difficult, and I screamed in pain before everything went black, and I fell unconscious onto the soft moss.
