I fell I my knees beside him and placed his head in my lap as our parents came running. I checked for a pulse and found a weak one as my mother sobbed and my father called 911. I gently played with his hair and cooed to him as we waited. Tears I never knew were there, dropped onto his cheeks when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a strange glowing pattern on the back of his hand. I began to trace it when the ambulance arrived. They gently removed him from me and we followed as he was put in back. An EMT turned to me.

"Would you like to ride with since you found him?"

I nodded mutely and sat beside Sam. For the entire ride I say with my warm fingers interlocked with his cold ones. When they finally took him from me, I broke down into gut-wrenching sobs and slid to the floor. Strong, warm arms enveloped me and picked me up, cradling me. I had not strength left to fight who was holding me, so I let my head bob, falling asleep thinking I didn't care if I died or not.

I was running through the forest, branches blocking my path. It was silent aside from my ragged breathing. Roots spring at me, attempting to trip me. I kept running, my legs and lungs screaming at me to stop. I could sense them following me. I looked over my shoulder to see how far they were when I tripped and the root grabbed me.

"No!" I screamed, not caring if they heard me. "no,no,no,no,no!"

I struggled with the root, tears steaming down my face. The harder I fought, the tighter it became. The trees parted and put came a single body, cloaked in a white hood. he paused above me and watched me struggle. He knelt and gripped my wrists.

"Stop."

He let me go and gripped the root. Light began to shine and a patterns began to spread. The root loosened until it let go and shrink away. We continued to gaze at each other until he nodded and walked away.

I slowly opened my eyes and the events came rushing back. I curled into a ball, sobbing into my knees. I felt a large hand rub circles on my back.

"It's all going to be alright. just calm down and look at me."

As the sobs began to subside, I slowly sat up and reopened my eyes. The gentle, dark green eyes that looked back at me sparkled.

"Are you alright? You were screaming and only slept for two hours."

I nodded and looked away.

"Hey, wait. Please keep looking at me."

I looked back and studied him. he looked young for a doctor. With his dirty blonde hair and deep green eyes, he looked like a surfer. He had high cheekbones, tan skin cleanly shaven, broad shoulders and a narrow waist. He looked to be about 6'2". His smile was bright and sweet. He was very good looking.

"Would it be alright if I asked you a few questions?"

I nodded.

"Are you Sam Williams' girlfriend?"

My eyes widened in shock Nd I shook my head vigorously. He chuckled at my reaction.

"Family member? Sister?"

I nodded in affirmation.

"You found Sam, yes?"

I nodded once again.

"Do you know what happened? Did you hear anything?"

I shook my head and my eyes smarted.

"What's your name?"

I swallowed saliva and cleared my throat.

"Kira."

If it was possible, his smile grew.

"Nice to meet you, Kira. I'm Isaac."

I gave him a small smile. He took my hand in his and I noticed an odd pattern on his wrist that closely resembled the one on Sam. I jerked my hand away quickly and my body tensed.

"Kira? What's wrong?" Confusion dominated his words.

"Nothing, you shocked me is all."

He looked unconvinced but let it go.

"Would you like to see him?"

"Yes."

I stood up and almost fell. Isaac grasped my elbow.

"Take it easy. We don't need you in here too."

I shook him off and regained my balance.

"What room is he in?"

"240C. I'll take you there."

He led me down an empty corridor to a waiting elevator. He pressed the down button and we waited silently. When we were in and the doors were about to close, a hand flashed out and held them open. A man that appeared my age stepped in and grinned at me before turning to Isaac.

"Good morning, Isaac. And how are you today?"

"What do you want Liam?" He asked through clenched teeth. His reaction the the boy's presence made me study the newcomer. he was tall, almost as tall as Isaac, with a toned runner's body. His shaggy brown hair curled at his collar and fell in his chocolate brown eyes. The smile on his lips would make any girl melt. He looked over at me and winked.

"We need her."

Isaac tensed at the words and moved to be in front of me.

"Why?"

"Well, her brother didn't work...we thought we'd try her before her parents."

I was frozen, unable tondo anything but listen. Isaac glared at Liam.

"I'm taking her to see her brother. If it's the last thing I do, I will make sure you never touch her."

Liam snarled and the pattern exactly like the one on Sam flashed on the back of his neck.

"Now, Isaac. Do you remember what happened to your last charge when you defied us?"

Pain flashed across Isaac's face but he quickly regained composure.

"She fell in love with Dane and became one of you, filthy scum."

Liam narrowed his eyes and a tearing sound could be heard when out of nowhere the elevator stopped and he doors opened to reveal another man. He was as tall as Isaac, with flaming red hair and ice blue eyes. his pale skin made his freckles even more prominent. He glared at Isaac and his pattern glowed on the side of his neck.

"Liam, why haven't you taken the girl yet?" His voice was a growl.

"I'm enjoying my little talk with Isaac, Dane."

"Zeke is waiting for her. He wants to be the one to do it."

Dane stepped in and I cowered into a corner. he glanced at me and smirked.

"Dane why don't you do it?" Liam questioned.

"I don't want to touch a mere mortal anymore."

Liam growled and the elevator finished it's descent. as it came to a stop, Dane rushed Isaac and held him by his throat as Liam grabbed my hair and yanked me to my feet with a yelp. He leaned close and whispered,

"If he doesn't mark you, I will."

His warm breath on my face made me flinch and sent a chill down my spine. I let out a whimper as the doors opened for the figure that now stood before us.
