Took the Dare

Chapter 2

'We just made your process of confessing easier gurl, thank me later. Now let's get those sweets outta that box and into my stomach', Sarah and Rohan pat each others shoulders and then she comes snatches and opens the box I was holding.
'You witch'!
'Oooov they're cookies yummy'.
We both dress up plates with cookies and chips and my favourite fries with mayonnaise and ketchup in bowls and a large pizza and juice. Rohan helps us moving these snacks to the hall.
As I enter I glance at Jess talking, mostly boasting to Miles. And he keeps on nodding, if I were him I'd just stop her and tell her to stop but Miles is kind towards her. He has removed his jacket, revealing his arms that I want to hold. Uh......thoughts
Miles turns around, his face holds the gladness for our arrival. He's just at peace now. The snacks are placed at the centre.
'Woah, I love pizza's thank you Riley', he takes a slice without hesitating or waiting he digs in to take a bite. Am glad I ordered pizza, and now am staring at him. Oh shoot!
Rohan sits beside Jess, Sarah next to him leaving me to sit between her and Miles.
'Okay now let's play UNO', Sarah says.
'Of course you'd love that game'
'Hey Jess if I win you need to complete the dare I give you no matter what. Deal?'.
'Sure', Jess agrees.
Jess sits down in a yoko-Zuwari style, ready to play.
Cards were dealt and the game was on. It's fun till you're out of cards that match the ones on the ground or when it's +2, +4 turn and you got no reason to run. Because I didn't had any draw +2,+4 cards Sarah won easily. Yup, Jess blames me.
'Jessica, are you ready for the dare?'
'Am always ready', Jess exclaims.
'Rohan, your girl is on fire', Miles says.
'I guess we have no part to play in here', Rohan tells as me, Sarah laugh.
I bring an empty glass bottle from the kitchen and spin it. Its fast movement was leisurely slowing down as we all stared at it feeling excited and elated, also a bit terrified.
Once the bottle stopped it was Rohan's turn to spill a truth for a question asked by his friend Miles. Wow I don't think we all have any secrets.
My subconscious says 'yes you do, your crush still isn't aware that you like him'.
I look at him and think if he really doesn't know and I sigh.
'What did you think of Sarah when you first saw her?', Miles asks to tease them.
'Yea what did you think Rohan?', Sarah was eager. Aw they are perfect though Sarah can be intimidating but I love them both. And I know Rohan loves her so much that he keeps up with her anger and enthusiasm.
I laugh at my thoughts.
'Welll', Rohan's still thinking.
'You don't remember do you?', she tells with a serious tone.
'No I do, the first time I saw you was...when it was my first day in a new school and there you were talking with Riley in the corridor. You were looking cute in your short hairs which am very fond of. I thought you'd be a silent girl who loves to enjoy her life to the fullest but I was wrong about one thing in that'.
'The silent one', I laugh.
'Right', Jess joins too making it hard for Rohan.
'Well now you have a responsibility to take good care of me. I think you're lucky', Sarah shrugs.
Rohan laughs before saying, 'yup and I wouldn't change a thing about you'.
'Okay enough cringe', Jess sways her hand.
'Sorry you don't have a boyfriend for ya', Sarah makes a sarcastic sympathetic face.
'Shut up'.
'Okay moving on', Rohan says.
I got a dare by Rohan to scream something out loud outside which I did saying,'Good night fellas', from the terrace. He didn't had any other ideas. That was the only nicest thing to scream among all the thoughts that were running wild in my mind. Thank god nobody was outside.
Jess got a dare to call someone and tell them they have received a package. That guy on the phone wanted her number. It was hilarious. As we all were laughing not knowing what was going around us, Miles took the bottle pointed it on me like it was a telescope and am the target. He thought I didn't saw but I did and the whole time my heart was pounding.
And guess what, he had to ask me a question and I had to tell him the truth. What are the odds?
Does he know? Will he ask? What am I supposed to tell? Shall I lie? Oh I want to run away!
There was a long pause till he asked me.
'Hey Riley, why didn't you invite us yourself?'
My body finally stopped moving back and forth.
'That's your question' Jess says.
'I just wanted to know', he shrugs and turns to me 'So......'
'It was actually meant to be only me and Sarah, she surprised me one hour before saying she invited you guys. So I didn't know', it is the truth.
'Yeah she was still in the shower when I called', Sarah remarks.
'Heyyy, I was not'
Miles laughs.
Then it was the last spin, landed on Jess and Sarah's face said it was time!
'So Jess, I dare you to take us all to that "mansion" which you are afraid to go to from the day it was said in the news that it's haunted'.
'No way'
'Why are you afraid?', Rohan asks.
'Because she thinks she'll never return if she enters that house', Sarah teases.
'We'll just watch a movie', I say.
'Oh we're going! Cause she agreed to do so'.
'It's midnight, so drop it Sarah. Am afraid too at this hour', I try to persuade her but I know she'll deny it.
'Okay let's go if everybody's ready', Jess agrees, looking at me that I was in her side for this.
'Am ready', Sarah shouts.
'Oh yes', Rohan's ready too.
'Sure', Miles too.
I look at Jess and everyone. Oh crap! I love to watch horror movies but wouldn't love to go through one.
'So it's settled, we're going to have the best weekend of our lives', Sarah loves literally everything.
'Well um let's all take some necessities with us just to be prepared. Am gonna go bring'. I head upstairs to my room.
'Okay we're going! I think it's gonna be okay. Don't worry, no worries. Hakuna Matata' I repeat to myself as I search for the things to carry there.
My favourite fanny pack and two backpacks with water bottle and flashlights. And some other eating stuff.
'I think it's enough'
'Hey Riley we're gonna come back before midnight. Hurry', Sarah calls me.
I run down and they all give a look saying it's a lotta bags but idgaf cause am prepared, crap I even took my small folding knife thing. I give the fanny pack to Miles cause I thought it'd go good with his fit and a backpack to Rohan, holding onto another backpack for myself.
Miles says he'll carry the backpack. It's not that heavy though but I don't wanna argue.
'Umm...yeah sure'.
Sarah and Rohan look at me, these guys will never leave a chance to tease. I look at Rohan and say don't let your eyes off of Sarah (they both laugh looking at each other)
I look at the mess in the hall, the empty plates and pizza box lying on the floor. I keep the plates in the sink and leave the box to deal with later.
I lock the door and now we all head towards our fated destination...why the hell did I say fated
'Yesss!!!', Sarah is so thrilled.
'It's so cold outside. Oh wait! I forgot something', I say and run. As I unlock the door and reach my room I grab my muffler.
'You look cozy...and cute', Sarah says. I roll my eyes.
'Hey Riley give me the keys I want to change my skirt, it's cold', Jessica whispers to me.
After she arrives changing into casual sweatpants, Rohan teases her.
'Okay now we're good to go', I lift my arms in the air.
'Okay let's enjoy tonight', Sarah raises her hand in
Contentment.
Sarah and Rohan are leading the way. Jess is lost in her own thoughts, crossing her both arms she just walks lazily beside Miles. And am walking beside him.
Looking at my nervous self he asks, 'had Sarah ever visited this mansion before' keeping his eyes forward with a normal expression.
'No! But she loves the horror genre so much that she won't think a second even before going to a haunted place not even thinking she's putting her best friend in danger'
He laughs.
Am making him laugh, gosh that feels so good.
He turns to his right to check on Jess.
'Hey Jess, don't worry me and Riley are gonna protect you than protecting ourselves okay?'
Jess finally gets outta that bottomless pit of worries and rolls her eyes at Miles telling him to zip his mouth.
We both laugh as Jess rolls her eyes again at both of us.
'We shoulda brought some snacks with us', Rohan grumbles.
'You're fuckin' hungry already', Jess scoffs.
'Well I didn't bring these backpacks just to go with our outfits. Check out the first zip you're gonna find some energy bars', I tell.
'You're so thoughtful', Rohan says as he munches on the energy bar.
Even Sarah takes one from Rohan's bag and Miles too, we all eat as Jess hesitantly stares at my fanny pack. And I hand her an energy bar too. We all laugh at Jess's silent not so evident happiness as she opens the cover of it.
And after walking for another fifteen minutes far away from the houses of people, we're on top of a hill which has been deserted cause of many reasons.
The Mansion is not so big but eerie. There's only two floors, all the windows are closed none of them broken even a bit and the roof is firm too. If this wouldn't be abandoned, nor ghostly famed and was on a sale, people would line up. If there was a cemetery here I would've ran back to my house.
We look at each others faces and nod before opening the big, dust-cobwebs covered amazingly carved door. The creaking sound makes us scrunch our face.
Are you really going to search this whole damned mansion at 11 o'clock looking for a sign of paranormal activity??
I ignore my thoughts.
'We better not die Sarah', Miles says to tense Jess more who's not even helping us to open the door, she's just scanning the mansion standing there.
'Well Miles you said you're gonna protect me so yeah don't break promises', Jess grunts as she's heading inside while we try to open door so that it won't close as we move our hands away.
We hear her scream!!!
'What happened?' Sarah yells.
Me and Sarah run leaving the boys alone, they can take care. It's dark inside, but the moonlight is enough to see each other. I turn the flashlight on which was in my fanny pack and sway it around our surroundings. There's nothing unusual, yeah forgot it's Jess, she's almost scared of anything when it comes to paranormal stuff.
'Are you possessed or what?'
'No Sarah! Am just a real human unlike you guys. It's creepy here look at the cobwebs and the untouched old thingies plus I didn't had a flashlight'.
Who told you to run inside without one.
We hear a load thud. It's the entrance door, damn it's closed. WTH!!!
'You both couldn't hold that damn door', I shout. Well am surprised at my rage.
'Chill Riley, we can open it', Rohan tries but of course it won't open. It's the beginning of most of the freaking horror movies. Somebody locked us. Who could lock us, I mean it's almost midnight and the Mansion is a little far from the streets.
'Oh my god Rohan. You are an idiot, idiotttt'.
'We both didn't know, calm down Jess', Miles says.
'Calm down? We ain't gonna able to get out now Miles'.
We all try once to break the lock, bang the door hoping the person who locked us will show mercy and let us free.
Lock?
Why would anyone lock us in here?
