Hugh Hall hid in the bushes. He looked out into the cold, dark woods. He glanced down at his wrist watch, 2:34 am. 'It's almost time.' He thought to himself. In his other was a small device with a bright red switch. He heard rustling in the trees. Then a tall shadow emerged. It was long and covered with black fur. The thing lumbered around while making grunting sounds. 'Not yet, not yet..... Now!' Then he flipped the switch and a large net shot out from nowhere and trapped the beast. The creature squirmed around and even started calling for help. Hugh strutted over, grabbed it by the face, and yanked its whole head off. Underneath the creature's head was a human head, one screaming for help. Hugh looked at the guy and said, "oh, don't worry. Cops will be here any moment to cut you down. Oh, and I told them about all those houses you broke into." The guy yelled back, "how did you know I would be here?" Hugh pulled out a wallet and threw it on the ground, then he said, "Monsters don't carry ID." The man shuffled to check his pockets, he noticed a small hole torn in his pants. Hugh turned and began walking away. Then he called back, "see you around, fake foot."
The next morning Hugh woke up at his desk, maybe staying up till 2 am wasn't such a good idea, he thought to himself. He sat up and looked at his desk. It was covered in unorganized papers, on top of them was a cold cup of coffee, next to it was a nameplate labeled "private investigator." Heh. More like, paranormal investigator. Hugh sat back and looked at his watch. 9:30 am. Isaac should've been here by now. He sat up and began marching to the door. When suddenly it burst open, and Isaac Peters came charging in. "Hugh! I know I'm late, but I can explain. You see at the grocery store there was this line, and this old lady and-" Hugh interrupted, "Calm down, calm down. It's no big deal. I'll only be mad if you didn't get those files." Isaac reached into his satchel and pulled out several filed papers. "Of course I did," he said. "Alright, let's see what we have to work with," said Hugh. They sat down and laid the files out on a table. Isaac opened the first file and said, "Dinosaur bones were found somewhere out in Colorado."
"Yeah, so."
"There's a catch. The bones were found in shallow dirt. They couldn't have been planted there since the area was undisturbed."
"They could still be fake. What else did you find?"
Isaac opened the second file, "Out in Oregon several dead bodies were found drained of blood. Witnesses claimed to have some kind of horned demon in the area."
"Ahh, too mythical. Anything a bit more grounded?"
"If you insist." He opened the third and final file. "Three years ago four mangled corpses were found by what was believed to be an old government testing site. A day later, a dozen more were found in a suburban house a few miles away. Till this day no one knows what really happened."
"Now this is more like it! Can't wait to take a look." "Should I be worried about your excitement to find dead bodies?" Isaac asked. "Maybe a little bit," Hugh replied as he grabbed a small blue pouch of salt. "I'll remember to throw this over my shoulder if things get out of hand." "Oh come on, you don't really believe in that stuff, do you?" Hugh looked at Isaac, "If I didn't believe, I wouldn't have this job."
Hugh listened to dead leafs crunch under his feet. He looked around the forest, and saw a large fence off in the distance. That must be it. He thought to himself while boldly moving closer. He stopped and stared at a sign on the fence, "caution biohazard." Hugh grabbed on to the fence and readied to climb it, but then he heard a female voice say, "What are you doing here?" He turned around to see a woman with long red hair, a white lab coat, and glasses. Hugh pulled out his badge and said, "Hugh Hall, private investigator. Here about an incident that happened a few years back." The woman's face contorted with anger, "This is a government establishment. I'm afraid you'll have to take your investigation elsewhere, Mr. Hall." "Really now, you aren't doing anything illegal here, are you?" The woman grew angrier. "I said you aren't allowed here!" Hugh stepped back and frowned, "Fine then, I'll be on my way." He turned around and left the area. "Nothing clears suspicion quite like shady government cover ups." He pulled a phone out of his pocket and called Isaac, "Isaac, those government bigwigs won't let me look around."
