The road out of the storm-heavy Wild Area still smelled faintly of wet grass and Smoke-Poke Tail curry when Generact Town finally rose beyond the rolling ground near Lake Miloch. The town was smaller than Motostoke, but it did not feel quiet. Music floated over the roofs before we reached the first street.
Pikachu's ears lifted before mine caught the rhythm. He leaned forward from my shoulder, paws gripping my jacket with quick interest, "That sound is calling people closer, not warning them away."
I smiled and followed his gaze. A crowd had gathered around a small open square, where bright cables looped between speakers and the clean sound of two guitars moved like sparks over water. Gloria slowed beside me, while Flora's eyes brightened at the melody.
Generact Town looked built around that sound. Shop signs carried lightning-bolt designs, café windows displayed tiny guitar charms, and even the streetlamps had metal frames shaped like tuning forks. After the wet, open Wild Area, the town felt like stepping into a warm amplifier.
"Wow," Flora said, clasping her hands. "What is happening here?"
Elena brushed a damp curl from her cheek and smiled with recognition. "That should be Bolt and Boltera. Their guitar performances are famous around here. If Generact Town is awake, one of their songs is usually the reason."
Alice had already tilted her head as if she were memorizing the chords. "Gym Leaders who play guitar?"
She tried to sound casual, but I knew her well enough to hear the pressure under it. I had three Badges now, and she still carried two. Alice was not jealous, but she did not like feeling as if the road had started measuring her by someone else's steps.
Helen laughed softly. "Electric specialists and musicians. That sounds dangerous for anyone who thinks a stadium is only about battling."
We joined the back of the crowd as the last song climbed into a bright, ringing finish. One of the performers, a woman with electric-yellow accents on her jacket, lifted her pick in thanks. Beside her stood a young man with matching style and a quieter expression, his fingers resting on the strings as if the guitar itself still had more to say.
The crowd dispersed with cheerful applause. When the twins noticed our Gym Challenger bands, the woman stepped down first and shook Alice's hand, then mine.
"Welcome to Generact Town," she said warmly. "I am Boltera, and this is my brother, Bolt. Your timing says at least one of you came for our Gym."
"Alice did," I said. "I already earned Kabu's Badge in Motostoke."
Alice's smile sharpened with determination. "And I still need my third Badge."
Bolt answered by strumming a short pattern, low notes followed by a bright upward sweep. His face stayed calm, but the music carried greeting more clearly than a wave. Boltera listened, then nodded.
"My brother says he is glad your road brought you here safely," she translated. "Bolt does not speak with words. His music is his voice, and we built our Gym around learning to hear it."
Flora's expression softened, but she did not turn it into pity. "That is beautiful."
Bolt touched two strings with his pick and sent out a playful little chord. Boltera's grin widened. "He also says beautiful things are easier when people stop staring like someone dropped a piano."
Gloria coughed into her hand to hide a laugh. Alice laughed openly, and the tension broke.
"We play guitar too," Alice said. "Not like you, but enough to know when someone is using more than sound."
