The morning was silent. Not even the claws of a dragon could kill the eerie quietness of the Jade Winglet's sleeping quarters. Curled in bed, Winter of the Icewings gradually began to awaken, body covered by a cozy blanket, head rested on a soft pillow. His eyes bloomed open, and he found himself staring at the ceiling. He listened closely: Qibli wasn't standing over him waiting for him to get up so they could eat breakfast together, Turtle wasn't scurrying around the cave looking for his homework, Moon wasn't the first out of bed like always, Umber was back at the Mud Kingdom doing some Mudwing business Winter couldn't remember, and Kinkajou wasn't there to wake them up with her excitement of the start of a new day. With some peace still lingering in the cave, Winter let his eyes close, his tired eyes wanting at least another few moments of sleep. Relaxing into his little cocoon of warmth and safety, Winter rested, with nothing to disturb his tranquility...

...Until something did, "SNOW!!" Winter's eyes sprang open in surprise, and in a rush of excited banana-yellow, Kinkajou bolted inside their quarters like a chicken with its head cut off. Kinkajou turned to Moon's bed and climbed onto it, staring right at Moon, as if she was using the power of her stare to awaken her, "Moon get up it's snowing outside!"

Moon groaned sleepily, "That's nice, Kinkajou..." She yawned.

"Urrghhh... go back to sleep, fruit-eater, it doesn't snow on Jade Mountain," Winter said, covering his face under the covers.

"Yes it does, oh you should have seen it, it looks so magical out there!" Kinkajou said, quivering in excitement, "Come on, sleepyhead, I thought you Icewings loved snow!"

"We also love not being woken up by loud tiny Rainwings," Winter growled, getting up, knowing there was no hope left for him to get any more sleep.

"Hey! I'm not tiny, I'm just fun-sized!" Kinkajou said, poking Qibli's side with a claw, "Qibli wake up! Winter said that he wants to cuddle with you!"

The Sandwing sprung up quickly, "Wow that's new, this early in the morning?" Qibli said in a tired voice.

"I hate my life," Winter muttered.

"Shouldn't we be getting ready for class?" Turtle asked, splashing water on his face from a nearby container.

"Don't be a smokebreather, everybody's already out there!" Kinkajou said, smiling as Moon pat her on the head, "Come on, I gotta show Tamarin and Peril!"

"Can we not bring Scarlet's dancing monkey this time?" Winter suggested, stretching.

"She's not that bad once you get used to the fire." Turtle offered.

"Besides, she's a part of our winglet now, we should treat her as such, even if she doesn't sleep in the same cave as us," said Moon, "I'll go get her, and I'll meet you all outside."

"How would that work anyway? Wouldn't she just melt anything she stepped on?" Qibli asked, wrapping his tail around Winter's very carefully.

"I guess we'll find out then." said Moon, amused at the thought, "I'll see you all out there soon."

Kinkajou led the way out of the dorm, chatting excitedly with the group as they walked. Winter didn't listen noticing how the hallways did seem emptier than usual. Usually, the halls were filled with dragons going to the prey center or outside for a quick morning flight before class started, but now it was empty save for only a few students. Winter shook his head. It didn't snow anywhere else in Phyrria other than the Ice Kingdom. What was that silly Rainwing going on about?

When the four dragons reached the exit of the cave, it was like they had stepped into a brand new world where white fluffy powder concealed the land below. Snowflakes fell from the sky like rain, and all through the forest, dragons ran through the snow, some flying through the sky while others dug up piles of the stuff and flung it at others. Having lived all his life in the Ice Kingdom, where it was always snowing, Winter had no idea that it snowed outside of Phyrria, failing to believe scrolls that told him otherwise. A faint smile emerged on Winter's face as he took a step forward and pressed his paws in the snow for the first time in months. He wanted to roll around and embrace the cold, bury himself in it, and hoard it all to himself.
