"Babe, where do you want me to put this?"
I looked away from the painting I had been staring at the past 10 minutes. The painting of my mom and I when I was about 4 years old,and I was helping her with her garden she loved so much while she stood back watching me with the biggest smile on her face. It was a gift from her to me on my 21st birthday, the day before she got killed in a car crash on her way to work.
"Oh,you could just sit it there,Chres." I said, snapping out of my daze.
He put the box down, then walked over to me,hugging me. "I know you miss her, hell I do too." He said, then kissed my forehead. "Yea," I sighed, then looked around at our new house," we have so much to do." We had just bought a two story house with the money we'd been saving. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood and close to my job, and just perfect.
"Well I'll go get the rest of the boxes from the apartment, you can stay here." He pecked me on the lips and did a small wave before leaving out the front door. A few seconds later I heard his truck turn on and I started to unpack some of the dishes we had, putting them into the cabinets. I was unpacking the second box when I heard a dog barking outside. I stopped what I was doing, and put the cup I was holding down. I walked out the front door and a huge dog jumped on me,making me scream. It wagged its tail happily, licking me all over my face. I laughed, "well,hi." The dog jumped off of me,and I stood back up,just as my bracelet fell off of my wrist. The dog snatched it up in its mouth, then ran off. I ran after it,barefoot, and my hair falling from the loose ponytail it was in. All of a sudden the dog was at someone's feet, wagging it's tail. I looked up,seeing a man with a curly Afro. He looked at the dog, then me as I was breathing heavily.
"Sorry about that,Sam gets a little excited when we get new neighbors." He said, chuckling.
I laughed. "Yea,well, Sam took my bracelet." I said, gently taking the bracelet from Sam's mouth.
"I'm sorry about that,Jasmine." He said, reading my name on my bracelet. "Oh it's fine, and you are?" I held out my hand for him to shake.
"Jacob." He smiled,shaking it.
"Nice to meet you. How long you been living here? Sorry, I look a mess I've been moving all day."
"Oh no it's okay you look perfectly fine," he smiled, making me blush a little, "and I've been here a little over 3 years,it's really nice."
"Oh I can tell, I love it already. So is it just you and Sam?" I looked down, squatting and petting Sam again. I noticed my hair had fallen from my ponytail and I pulled it back up with the extra scrunchie around my wrist.
"Yes,my fiancé passed two years ago."
"Oh,I'm so sorry."
"It's fine,I've gotten over it now. What about you?"
"Oh, my boyfriend just went to the apartment to grab a few boxes. He should be back any minute now."
"Well,it's a pleasure to meet you. How about you guys come over for dinner tonight? As a welcome gift?"
"Oh thanks. We'll be here at 7." I waved, walking off so that I could get more done before Chres got back.

*Jacob*

She was perfect. Everything about her was perfect. Her gorgeous brown eyes, long, curly hair, and perfect brown skin. Even the way her lips curled up into an amazing smile had me wanting to lock her in my basement from the first moment I saw her. It was love at first sight. She won't have to worry about her little boyfriend for long, because he will soon be out of the picture for good, and she will be all mine.
