I ran a brush effortlessly through my hair. I was deep in thought. I had just moved to Brooklyn and I hadn't had the warmest welcoming. To start, as soon as I stepped off the train I ran right into a wealthy looking man in a business suit.

"Watch where you're going! Stupid kids." He yelled at me even after I apologized like what a rude man! But anyway after that we trudged our stuff to our apartment complex. It took us 10 minutes just to hail a taxi. After we finally got one it turns out the driver was really disrespectful. When we tried to pay him my mom miscalculated and was a dollar short, he literally got so mad. She ended up paying him extra even though it was at our inconvenience. Once we finally got to the complex our keycard didn't even work! My mom had to go back downstairs and took an hour just to find one that did work. It was almost the worst day of my life.

"KEIRA!!" I heard my mom yell from across the hall. "YOU'RE ABOUT TO BE LATE!" I checked my watch and in fact I was about to be late. I dramatically sighed and walked out of my bathroom. Slipping on my navy converses proved to be difficult. My heel literally would not go in. After it finally went in I ran out of the door and waved to the clerk at the front desk. After hailing down a taxi I was on my way to school.

When I got to the doors it was already 8:05. I fast walked down the hallway to my first period of the day. I burst in the door a good 5 minutes later because I couldn't find my class. Everyone turned to stare at me and I looked down at my shoes in embarrassment.

"Well, Mrs. Porter. Im assuming there's a good reason you're late?" My teacher pushed his glasses up his nose and looked at me expectantly. "Did you struggle finding my class?" I nodded and he pointed towards an empty desk. I made my way over there through the aisles of seats. It was next to a girl who looked popular. Ugh she's probably mean.

35 minutes later

A bell ringing loudly awoke me from my short nap I took. I shuffled out after everyone else but I noticed the girl that I had been sat next to stayed afterwards to talk to the teacher whose name I learned was Mr. Robins. He seemed like a chill guy but it was only my first day. I walked out of the classroom but couldn't help but eavesdrop.

"Madelyn, if you don't bring your grades up you're gonna have to drop out of this class." His tone sounded serious but sympathetic.

"But Mr. Robins! I can't bring up my grades before October, that's nearly impossible!" Her voice was shaking the entire time. I could tell she cared about her grades but couldn't bring them higher.

"Let's make a deal, Madelyn." This could be interesting. "I'll find you a tutor within the next week or so and if you can improve your grade by at least one letter I'll give you an extension to December." He sighed audibly. There was silence for what felt like forever before the girl finally spoke.

"Yes sir, this better work though. I need this class to get into UCLA!" After that she walked out with her head hung low. I hope she finds somebody she sounded serious about trying. Then I had an idea. Was it a good one? Nope. But I could still try.

I strolled into Mr. Robins classroom and looked around. Well no going back now. "Uh, Mr. Robins?" He looked up at me through the rim of his glasses.

"Can I help you?" He smiled at me and I smiled back politely. I took a deep breath and continued.

"Well... I was thinking. And I didn't mean to eavesdrop but I couldn't help myself. What if I was that girls tutor? My grades are above average for this class and I have loads of extra free time." I tried not to talk at light speed but it didn't exactly work. He raised an eyebrow and motioned for me to continue on.

"It's just a thought Mr. Robins. I would understand completely if you had objections." He sighed and folded his hands in front of him. It looked like he was pondering for a moment then he responded.

"I suppose it couldn't hurt, I'll inform Madelyn." Awesome, now I was a tutor and I had a way to spend my time! I grinned widely and thanked him. I guess I should leave now I'm about to be late.

"Wait, before you leave let me check your records from your last school. I'll write you a note for your tardiness." I turned back towards him and sat across the desk.

He pulled up a website and turned around the neck of his computer. He pointed to each grade with a pencil until he got to AP calculus aka this class.

"You have a history of all A's I see." He said happily, almost as if he was proud of me. I smiled and agreed quickly.

"Yes sir, I study extremely hard and always pay attention during class." He nodded approvingly and sighed.

"So it seems, you appear quite fit for the job of a tutor. However, I must warn you. Whatever you heard of Madelyn trust me, she's harder to deal with than that." I grinned and stood up.

"Trust me, I can deal with whatever she has in store." I tried to play off his words to sound cool. He smirked and handed me my tardy note. I walked out of the classroom with a revived confidence in myself. I could do this. I've dealt with much worse than some cute high school girl. Wait what? Did I just say cute?? Gross, that's not what I meant.

Anywho, to my next class.
