The choosing ceremony is here. My mother walks next to me and we take our seats. I am way more calm than the other Dauntless. The initiation leaders stay behind. Eric has been rough on the initiates more this year than in the past. The Abnegation come in last and take their seats. Marcus Eaton is staring into the crowd like he is searching for someone. Jeanine Matthews stands up and begins the ceremony. They call the names in reverse alphabetical order. They call Prior, Caleb, an Abnegation boy. God I wish it was that natural for me. He walks up there easily and chooses Erudite. A stupid choice. They seem a little fishy. Next is that Prior kid's sister, Beatrice. Are they twins? It's hard to tell. She seems confused. She can tell she doesn't belong there anymore and chooses Dauntless. The Dauntless go crazy. They would say 'A stiff in Dauntless' is rare. It's even more rare for a Dauntless to go to being a 'stiff'. I ended up dozing off. Next thing I knew they called 'Green, Sage'. I walk up there nervous. I feel like I am betraying my mother. I stare at the grey stones. They each are the exact same color. I grab the knife and slightly cut the top layer of my skin. blood begins to run down my hand. I squeeze my fingers into my palm. The blood drops onto one stone and stays there. They announce one single word. Abnegation. Each faction claps beside the Dauntless, who boo for me leaving the faction. The event is over and we clean up the auditorium. Slowly we walk out, me with my pride of my new faction showing.
