The dark sky screams, rain falling like rocks on the window. Eiran lies awake, listening to the raging sky. Dark hair and hazle eyes illuminated by the flashes of light striking the ground and bright orange flames coming from his hand. His bedroom door creaks open, light slipping in from the hallway. A small shadow shines in the wall next to him.

"Kaiden, why are you up?", Eiran questioned, putting his hand down. "You were up too." The tiny boy stated shyly. "I also don't have my first day of school tomorrow."He smiled at the boy. Kaiden had the same jet black hair as Eiran but his eyes were a bright, piercing blue."The noise woke me up."He clutched the small stuffed animal in his arms tighter. "Me too, Bud. Regardless, try to get some sleep. Can you do that for me?" His little brother didn't respond, but he nodded.

"Ok. Thank you. Good night."Eiran thought the boy would walk off but he stayed put. "You were doing magic again weren't you? I know you stay up late doing magic." He whispered. This caught Eiran off guard. Eiran pulled away his covers, walking up to Kaiden and kneeling in front of him. "Look at me. Never say that again, okay? If you say that ever again they'll take me away and I'll never come back, okay?"Eiran took Kainen's shoulders. Kaiden nodded again, now leaving for his room down the hall. "Good night."Eiran called to him, closing his bedroom door for the night.

Eiran often worried about Kaiden. He never talked much to the other children in their small village, even before the accident. Kaiden ended up dropping out of school and taking care of his little brother, but he was smart enough to get by for the most part. Kaiden was finally old enough to start his years in school and Eiran's only goal was making sure he never had to give up his education like he did.

The next morning they both got ready and Eiran walked his little brother to the small building surrounded by kids. Eiran kneeled in front of him like the night before. "Remember what we talked about last night? Don't ever say the "M" word and don't tell anyone I was doing anything last night, alright?"He whispered, trying to keep the people around him from hearing.
"Our secret?"Kaiden stuck out his pinky finger. "Our secret."Eiran reached out his pinky , intertwining them. For them, this was basically a legally binding contract. Nothing on Earth could ever break this promise.

"Okay. Have a good day at school, Okay? Make some new friends."He hugged his little brother, sending him off.

Eiran walked away from the small school house and made his way to work. Eiran had been jumping from job to job here lately, not being able to keep up with work. He never got enough sleep anymore due to his magic. You see, most people only had one form of magic. Some had one of the main elements like fire, water, air, or earth. Others had subdivisions of this such as ice, smoke, vines, or boiling. Eiran had all of them. He always had these powers and often wondered why. The power from these powers brought horrible nightmares and they were getting worse.
He often had nightmares of women's screams and children crying. He couldn't see anything but fire in these dreams. He had always guessed this was because fire was his most dominant power. Both his parents had the power of the flame. Every now and then he saw visions of people with water or vines but mostly, it was fire.

Honestly, it didn't matter much which powers you had. No one was able to use powers anyway. The president announced years ago, before Eiran was even born, that powers made everyone think they were better than others so no one was allowed to use or in the president's words, "flaunt" your powers. Not even in the privacy of your own house.

If you were ever caught using them, you could be arrested for life. Eiran often tested this, hoping no one would see him. He would often just stare at the flames or water materializing from his hand with wonder. He didn't do this much as a child, mainly because he hadn't been too focused on them. As of right now he worked in railroad work. He mainly set down tracks and helped work on trains.

He was quickly becoming bored of this job but he knew he had to keep food on the table somehow. He always thought life would be so much easier if he was able to use magic during these jobs but that wasn't possible.

He arrived home early from work and made dinner, waiting for Kaiden to get home. A knock came from the door and Eiran ran to answer it. "How was your-"He was interrupted by Kaiden hugging him, crying.

"What-what happened?"He asked, confused. "They-they said I was destined to end up like my parents. Dead disappointments."He wailed, and Eiran held him, still processing his words. "Did you tell your teacher?"He questioned, pulling away. "I was walking home when they said it."He sniffed, wiping his nose. "I'll talk to her tomorrow when I drop you off. Okay? Just. Don't listen to people who don't matter, Especially when they haven't even met them."Eiran smiled at his little brother, hoping to comfort him.

"But I haven't either! THAT'S THE PROBLEM!"Kaiden screamed, more tears falling and his face turning red. "What...?"He asked, looking at his brother, looking for answers. "I was only 4! I don't even remember anything about them. Almost everything I know is things that you've told me. I barely knew them. How am I supposed to know if they are wrong or not? I barely knew them!"He screamed, this time Eiran saw bright flashes of light in his eyes.

Oh no. No no no. He needed to calm him down. "7 whole years! I've been living with you longer than them! You might as well be my parent. Why did they have to die!?Everything would be different if they were still alive! I wouldn't be bullied, you wouldn't use your mag-" Eiran covered his mouth, trying to stop him but it was too late.

Kaiden's magic had already filled the house. Fire, water, breezes, and rocks were all swirling in a disturbing harmony around the house. Kaiden pushed Eiran away. Eiran had no choice but to try to stop this madness before the cops got here.

While Kaiden's magic was much more destructive right now, Eiran's was controlled. He knew what he was doing. Eiran added his fire into the mix, his most powerful asset. "What are you going to do, burn me!? You going to burn me to a crisp like you did to them!?''Kaiden screamed to be heard over the wind and fire.

Eiran was stunned. He couldn't move. He tried to move but he couldn't. His flames disappeared, and Kaiden was leaving trails of fire and rocks and water everywhere he stepped. He stepped up to Eiran, freezing him in a giant piece of ice. "You took them. You're the reason I never met them!''He cried. Eiran's eyes quickly went to the ball of fire now in Kaiden's hand.
