Edward.

Crack, thump. Was the sounds Edward had been hearing the last while, the sounds of the axe hitting the wood, and then it dropping as it splinters. That, and the wind, paired with the sound of him throwing the wood in a pile. He was so lost in his own mind he barely registered the cold around him, the snowflakes still flurrying around. The storm had calmed, sure, but it hadn't stopped. He had a feeling that it wouldn't for a while, but that wasn't on the forefront of his mind.

No, that would be Bella. What the fuck had he done, pulling that shit last night? Kissing her? God, she's stuck here with him, and he knew she didn't want to be already and he went and made it worse. He lifted the axe over his shoulder, and was about to bring it down on the next piece of wood falling victim to him venting his frustrations when his phone rang in his pocket.

He sighed, bringing the axe down and wedging it in the wood block as he took his phone out of his pocket. Emmett. Fuck. What if Bella had called him and told him what Edward had done last night? He was toast. However, he would take his punishment like a man. He used his teeth to pull off his glove and answered the phone, bringing it to his ear.

"Hey, man. What's up?" He said as a greeting, clearing his throat quickly as he registered it was higher than normal. Cool it.

"Hey, just calling to make sure you're not dead." His best friend answers, "I've been calling Bella but no answer, I didn't know if she was too busy burying your corpse in the snow somewhere to talk to me."

"Nah, she's smarter than that." Edward said, his nerves alight in his stomach. "She would stuff my body in the deep freeze and wait until spring at least." Emmett laughed at that, and Edward relaxed.. only slightly. The guilt was really starting to lay on him now. He kissed his best friends kid sister. He would never forgive him. And worse, he wanted to do it again.

"Has she been very mean to you?" Emmett asked, "I know this situation isn't ideal and I'm sorry about that, I shouldn't have invited you both at the same time. I know how uncomfortable you both get."

"No, she's been okay." Edward said, his voice strained. "We shared some chips last night."

"Really?" Emmetts voice was in awe. "That's progress, maybe I can make friends out of you two yet. It would make my life so much easier if you two could get along."

Edwards head fell back, his eyes screwing shut. "Yeah.. yeah it would." He sighs. "Everything's fine so far, I actually am enjoying her company." He cringed once the words left his mouth, hoping Emmett wouldn't catch on to anything suspicious.

"That's good man, we should be good to fly out tomorrow, problem is then trying to find a way to get to you guys, if you are snowed in it's going to be a hell of a time. Probably have to hire someone." Emmett rambles on, and Edward hears the snow crunching behind him. He glanced back, catching sight of Bella making her way towards him.

A fucking vision. He doesn't even comprehend what Emmett's saying anymore as he watches her. Her long wavy hair falling around her face and over her coat, a soft, sheepish smile on her lips as she watches him. She was honestly the most beautiful girl he's ever met. And now that he's kissed her, these confusing feelings are finally beginning to make sense. He wanted her. That was a problem. He was digging himself a fucking grave.

"Hey, listen, I'm sorry to cut you off but we've had no power since last night and I'm cutting up firewood so that the pain in our butts doesn't freeze." He smiles at Bella to let her know he's teasing and she rolls her eyes.

"Powers out?" He said. "Damn, okay well you know I have a generator in the basement, right?" Edward sighs in annoyance.

"No I did not know that, thanks for the heads up, man." He responded.
