Bella
She paced in front of the door, praying that both of the men would return together, not fighting anymore. She didn't want to be the reason they fought or, God forbid, ended their years-long friendship. Rosalie had tried to be comforting, telling her Emmett would get over it, but it did nothing to calm the waves of guilt and fear washing through her. Finally, she catches sight of Edward approaching the house through the mirror on the door and gasps as she sees the blood pouring from his nose.
She throws open the door and runs out with no coat, meeting him. "I'm okay." He immediately tries to reassure her. She reaches up to touch his nose and the black and purple bruise forming there, and he hisses when she comes in contact with it.
"It's broken." She's angry, and he knows it. She glared around him to where her brother was.
"No, really, you should see the other guy." Edward continues trying to make light of the situation. She shakes her head, the guilt causing more tears to enter her eyes. She sniffs.
"I'm so sorry." She whispers.
"Hey.." he says softly, stepping closer to her, "you have nothing to apologize for. Do you understand me? Not to me, and not to anyone else."
"Come on, let's get you cleaned up." She sighs, leading him to the house. They go to the bathroom where Bella cleans him up. He knew thankfully his nose wouldn't need to be reset, and there was no point in going to the hospital. Bella was fuming, and Rosalie stood in the doorway, apologizing over and over.
"We just, hopefully, need to give Emmett some time, and he will be fine." Edward says, remaining optimistic as always. "I'll go to a hotel and give him time to cool off."
"We will go to a hotel." Bella corrects him. He shakes his head at the same time Rosalie says, "No." But Bella continues. "I don't care how angry he is, I'm a grown woman, and even if Edward was just using me, for all Emmett knows, I was just down to have some sex! He's acting like a child, and he needs to grow up. I'm going, and if Edward doesn't want me at his hotel, I'll get my own."
"It's not that I don't want you, sweet girl." He says, and she blushes at the nickname, "I just don't want to cause any more strife between you and Emmett. I'll take you anywhere."
"Bella, you should both stay." Rosalie pipes up, "Emmett just needs some time to calm down, that's all. I get that you do, too, now. I married into a family of hotheads." She glances meaningfully at Edward, "you've been officially warned."
He grins despite all the shit going on. "Oh, I've known that for a long time. Right, Bella?" She rolls her eyes at him.
"You want the wrath directed back at you?" She asks, smirking despite herself.
"Nope." He says, popping the p. "You just started being nice to me."
Her hand rests on his shoulder, a sigh escaping her lips. "It'll be okay."
"Yes, it will." Rosalie agrees.
It was then that the trio heard the front door open, and they all went silent. They listened as Emmett kicked his boots off and started in towards them. When he got to the door and looked in to see them, Bellas hand tightened on Edward's shoulder. She took a step closer to him and glared at her brother defiantly.
"Don't look at me like that, Bella." Emmett said, "You're the one in the wrong, and you know it."
"Emmett." Rosalie warns him, turning as if to shield the others from him. "You're being ridiculous."
"She is wrong, and she knows it." Emmett grits out.
"Hang on a second." Edward interjects, standing up. "Bella did nothing wrong, and neither did I, for that matter, I told you down by the lake.. Emmett, I love you, and you really are the best friend I could ever and have ever had. So, I hope you don't make me choose..." he turns slightly, moving behind Bella and placing his hand on her hip. "I'll choose her."
Bella frowns, her eyes full of tears as she wonders what she has done. She ruined her brothers friendship, and she would do it again. "We will go, I guess you guys had to get someone to take you up here on skidoo.. we will pack up and call someone."
"Just wait a second." Rosalie says and ushers Emmett out of the room, Emmett, who glares their way the whole time.
Bella turns and looks up to Edward, frowning slightly at his clearly broken nose. "You would choose me?" She asks.
"Every day." He tells her, and he doesn't hesitate. "I should have chosen you years ago, but my dumb teenage brain didn't know what he was doing. I'm so sorry for that."
She leans up and presses a soft kiss to his cheek.
Rosalie chooses then to show back up at the door. "You guys are staying, I dealt with Emmett."
"Dealt with him how? Drowning? Stabbing?" Bella joked, Edward laughs.
"You don't want to know." She sighs. "He might still be hostile, but he won't actively try and kick you out anymore. And for the record, I'm happy for you guys. It's been a long time coming. Alice thought so too, she's going to flip when she finds out."
Edward's eyebrow raises at the mention of his baby sister. "Good to know." He says.
Rosalie leaves again then, and Bella turns to Edward. "What does this mean for us then? When we get out of here, we still live in different states."
"It doesn't matter," he promises, "I waited for you for ten years, now I have you. I will move heaven and earth to keep you."
Nothing else needs to he said, as their lips meet.
