The smell of singed clothing still lingered in my nose. The shouts and gasps of students echoed in my head.
Sebastian's eyes were darker than usual. It was like he was a completely different person.
I had never seen him that mad before.
Anne dragged him out of the room but not before we locked eyes. I couldn't help my horrified look then.
But I wasn't scared of him. I was more terrified of what he had done.
If Professor Hecat wasn't there to stop the fire then—
"—Little Emerald."
I blinked twice, resurfacing back to reality.
I was at the Hospital wing with Atticus, who sat at the edge of one of the hospital beds. Nurse Blainey just finished fixing up Atticus and told him he was good to leave when he was ready.
"I'm sorry..."
Atticus sighed. "Like I said before, Emerald. It wasn't your fault. You weren't the one who singed my favourite robes!" He attempted a pouted look but failed miserably. "Stop apologising for something you didn't do."
I kept my head low. I still felt like it was my fault. Sebastian was already in a foul mood even before his duel with Atticus. I just made it worse by giving him that look.
The look that pleaded with him to take back his feelings.
Atticus was just a replacement for the battle dummies at the Undercroft.
Collateral damage, I suppose.
Atticus released another sigh, noticing I wasn't listening to a word he said.
"Look, if Mr.Overprotective apologises to you then I'll forgive him."
"To me?" I arched a brow.
"No, my robes," he deadpanned.
I rolled my eyes.
"Bloody hell—Yes! of course you! It doesn't take a genius to see that something is going on between the two of you. I see how you look at each other and I'm guessing—from how hot-headed he is—that it was Sallow's fault."
Why do people keep thinking that it's Sebastian's fault?
"I-it's not his fault..."
I pushed him away.
"Little Emerald, I know I only spoke to you today, but I've known you since our first year. You're the type to bottle things up than lash out. You're too kind."
"I'm not really..."
He shrugged, not at all convinced. "Well, in any case, I need to go and fetch myself a new robe before my next class," Atticus stood up and gently patted the top of my head. "Just know that if he truly cares for you, then he would have stayed by your side instead of making you feel responsible for his own damn feelings."

"So I heard what happened at DADA class today." A high-pitched sweet voice said from beside me.
I was crouched down next to a Kneazle, a brush in hand. I looked up to see Ezrel Griffiths, my Ravenclaw friend. Her dark brown hair was tied up into a ponytail with a couple of strands falling to the side of her face. The gentle breeze made her hair sway beautifully, just like a painting. I caught a whiff of honey and tea. She loved wearing her rounded glasses, I thought it was too big for her. Her dark brown eyes sparkled as she saw me.
