The sun was setting over the hills of Honiara, casting a red glow over the city. Anna, David, John, Mary, and Peter were hiding in an abandoned warehouse, surrounded by the moans and groans of the undead. They had been surviving for weeks, scavenging for food and water, avoiding the hordes of zombies that roamed the streets. They had lost many friends and family members along the way, but they still had each other.
They were planning to leave the city soon, hoping to find a safe place somewhere else. They had heard rumors of a boat that could take them to another island, where the infection had not spread. They just needed to find a way to get to the harbor, without attracting too much attention.
They decided to wait until nightfall, when the zombies were less active. They packed their bags with the few belongings they had left, and armed themselves with whatever weapons they could find. They had a machete, a crowbar, a hammer, a knife, and a pistol with only three bullets. They knew they had to be careful, and avoid any unnecessary fights.
They left the warehouse, and made their way through the dark streets, avoiding the main roads and the streetlights. They moved quietly, and quickly, keeping an eye out for any signs of danger. They had a map of the city, and a compass, to guide them to the harbor. They hoped to reach it before dawn.
They were halfway there, when they heard a loud noise. It sounded like a gunshot, followed by a scream. They stopped, and looked around. They saw a flash of light, coming from a building nearby. They heard another gunshot, and another scream. They realized it was coming from a group of people, who were trapped inside the building, surrounded by zombies.
They had a choice. They could ignore them, and continue to the harbor, or they could try to help them, and risk their own lives. They looked at each other, and decided to help. They ran towards the building, hoping to find a way in.
They reached the entrance, and saw that it was locked. They tried to break it open, but it was too sturdy. They looked for another way in, and found a window that was slightly open. They climbed through it, and entered the building.
They found themselves in a hallway, that led to a large room. They heard more gunshots, and more screams, coming from the room. They followed the sound, and reached the door. They opened it, and saw a scene of horror.
There were about a dozen people, dressed in colorful clothes, holding rifles and pistols. They were shooting at the zombies, that were trying to break through the barricades they had made. They were clearly outnumbered, and running out of ammo. They looked terrified, and desperate.
They also looked familiar. They recognized them as Austronesians, a group of people who shared a common ancestry and culture, and who lived in various islands across the Pacific. They had met some of them before, when they visited other islands. They spoke a different language, but they could understand each other, to some extent.
They realized they had to help them. They shouted at them, and waved their weapons. They tried to tell them that they were friends, and that they had come to help. The Austronesians looked at them, and saw that they were Solomon Islanders, like them. They nodded, and welcomed them. They told them to join them, and help them fight off the zombies.
They did so, and together, they formed a stronger defense. They used their weapons, and their skills, to fend off the zombies. They killed as many as they could, and wounded many more. They managed to hold them off, until the zombies retreated.
They cheered, and hugged each other. They had survived, thanks to their cooperation. They introduced themselves, and exchanged stories. They learned that the Austronesians had come from another island, where they had a boat. They had come to Honiara, to look for survivors, and to offer them a ride. They had found the building, and decided to stay there for the night. They had not expected the zombie attack, and had been caught off guard.
They asked them if they wanted to join them, and go to their island. They said that their island was safe, and that they had a community of survivors there. They said that they had enough food, and water, and medicine, and that they could live there peacefully. They said that they were welcome, and that they would treat them as family.
They accepted their offer, and thanked them. They said that they were grateful, and that they would do anything to help them. They said that they were friends, and that they would stick together. They said that they had a common bond, and that they were Austronesians.
They packed their bags, and left the building. They followed the Austronesians, to their boat. They boarded it, and sailed away. They left Honiara, and the zombies, behind. They looked forward, to a new life, on a new island. They hoped to find happiness, and peace, there. They hoped to survive, and thrive, there. They hoped to be Austronesians, there.
