Bonanza: "The Courtship of Candy Canaday."

Chapter Four

A few days pass as Candy stops by Miss Grayson's boutique. He walks up to the window to see Hannah placing a hat on display. He then knocks on the window, startling Hannah as she looks up. Candy waves at her as she shakes her head with a smirk and then heads out the door. 

She walks outside and sees him leaning against a post as she comes up to him and asks. "What are you doing here?" "Oh, I just thought I'd stop by and see you." He tells her. She gives a shy smile as he then asks. "Are we still having dinner at Joe and Alice's tonight?" "Yes, I work until five today, so I should be ready then." She tells him and then remembers something. "Oh, I just remembered, I want to show you something, come here." She starts to pull him along to the door when he stops and says. "Whoa, wait a minute, uh.." He gives a nervous chuckle as he points to the door. "I'm not going in there." "Don't be silly, come on." She says as she takes his hand and leads him inside the boutique as the little bell rings. 

While inside, Hannah leads him to the counter as all of the women inside turn their heads to him and Candy's face turns bright red with embarrassment. She comes up to the counter and then takes out a pie from underneath and shows it to him. "I made this for tonight. It's lemon meringue, one of my grandmother's recipes." Candy takes a whiff of the pie and then says to her. "It looks good, uh.." He turns and nods his head towards the door as he then tells her. "Why don't I just wait for you outside, okay?" "Alright, I shouldn't be long." She tells him and he then gives her a kiss on the cheek as some of the ladies snicker. 

Candy turns his head to them as they quickly get back to browsing and Candy gives a nervous smile as he says. "I'll be outside." Hannah nods as she tries to hold back laughter and Candy turns and then walks out the door as the little bell rings up above him. 

Meanwhile, Joe and Alice are walking along the boardwalk holding hands as Alice looks over at him and tells him. "Well, it looks like things are working out with Candy and Hannah, huh?" She nudges him in the shoulder and he can't help but smile as he responds in a somewhat annoyed tone. "Alright, as much as I don't want to admit it, you're right." She gives a soft chuckle as she lays her head down on his shoulder. 

They walk up to Miss Grayson's boutique as Joe sees Candy and greets him. "Hey, Candy." Candy turns around as he responds. "Oh, hey, Joe. Alice." "Hi." Alice responds with a smile. Joe then asks. "Is Hannah still joining us for supper?" Candy points to the door of the boutique as he replies. "Yeah, she.." He trails off when he looks inside the window to see Hannah with a man in a cashmere suit. He places a shawl around her shoulders as he sees her laughing along with the man and anger starts to overtake Candy and he quickly hurries back inside the boutique as Joe and Alice exchange puzzled glances. 

Candy hurries over to the man, grabs him and then punches him in the face knocking him over a display as he falls to the ground. The women in the store all gasp as Hannah looks down at him in shock and then looks back up at Candy who then pulls the man up by the shirt collar off the ground and is about to take another swing at him when Joe yells. "Candy!" Joe hurries over to him and pulls him off as Candy tries to fight him off as Joe tells him. "Hey, take it easy!" 

Candy finally settles down as Hannah bends down to the man and then says to Candy, angrily. "Candy, what on earth is the matter with you!?" Candy then says to her, angrily. "Do you mind explaining to me what he was doing with his hands all over you!?" "If you must know, he was having me try on a shawl for him, I was trying to be polite." Hannah tells him. "Oh, yeah, it looked like you were real friendly with him." Candy retorts back at her and then says to the man. "I suppose you think it's funny to be friendly with another man's girl!" Hannah then responds to him, angrily. "Candy! The shawl was a present..for his wife!" Candy looks at her as his demeanor changes and then looks back down at the man as he says with his voice trembling a bit. "H.h.his wife?" "Yes!" Hannah replies in exasperation.
