Madeline Cartwright, Virginia City's school teacher, has a brilliant plan for a school program that her students will perform at the end of the term. Even though neither of them realizes it, the wooden stage and Kevin's seven-year-old son, Oakley are bringing them together and by the time they finally figure out what they mean to each other, it's nearly too late. This is the first book of the Cartwright Gals: A Romancing the Ponderosa Spinoff series. The story follows Adam Cartwright and his younger brother Little Joe as they embark on a journey to Virginia City during a fierce blizzard. Little Joe becomes increasingly ill during the journey, and Adam struggles to keep him warm and conscious. As they make their way through the blizzard, they become lost and stumble upon a cabin where they are taken hostage by a group of outlaws led by a man named Jack. Adam is determined to protect Little Joe and keep him safe, even as they are held captive. Adam learns real fast that he just might have gotten himself in way deeper than he expected, especially since the redhead turns out to be not only a spitfire, but a very beautiful spitfire... (This is book two of Romancing the Ponderosa series and it is NOT a standalone. You must read the first book, Mrs. Little Joe for it to make sense since The Redhead begins three months after Mrs. Little Joe ends.)
