Being rickrolled is a much more polite awakening than being blindfolded and having your mouth duct taped.
The Gamemaster acknowledges it too. "Be grateful you aren't getting a replay of yesterday. Go get ready now. The car's already waiting. Don't forget your phone."
I look over at the curtained windows as the short phone call ends. Sunlight isn't seeping through the cracks of the curtains yet. Do we have to be up this early on a reality show? Oh well. It's not like I'm not used to it.
I get dressed and leave my room, bumping into Ash near the stairs. "Hey Charlotte! What do you think we'll be doing today?"
"I don't know."
"Are you excited?"
"Maybe, if we were better at challenges."
We get to the kitchen, where Luna, Julia and Ty already are. "Morning! Grab some breakfast, we're taking it to the car," says Ty happily.
"As I was saying, Ty, I still don't think we really came to any conclusion yesterday," Luna sighs as I pop a couple of slices of bread into the toaster. "I'm betting on getting to talk to some of Simon's 'victims' before the next quiz, see if anything sus has been going on on their end, and we'll go from there."
"But I think-Ash, are you seriously thinking of doing that in a moving vehicle?!"
I turn to see Julia tackling Ash as he makes for the kitchen door, barely hanging on to a large bowl, a large box of Lucky Charms, and a jug of milk.
"But that's my breakfast!"
Ty shoves an avocado-and-egg sandwich in Ash's direction. "You know what... just take this."
Ash slumps. "I don't want avocado."
I give him one of my slices that just popped out of the toaster. "Here you go."
Julia groans as she restrains him from running out again. "Should we just go now? I don't think I can hang on for much longer."
"What about Star? Is she up yet?" asks Ty.
We go silent save for sounds of Ash and Julia struggling. "I'll go check on her," I finally say.
"Okay, we'll wait in the car-if they leave without you, at least four people will be better than just Ash and maybe Jules."
I grab my other slice of toast and head upstairs to Star's room.
"I CAN'T GO ON TV LOOKING LIKE THIS!!!" Star squeals the moment I knock.
"Like what?" [I open the door and give the camera crew a full blast of her face. She doesn't look that bad.]
Star fake cries as she trudges to the door.
We head out to the van and are greeted by all eight of the other remaining players as the door slams behind us, mostly already eating and chatting.
"Mr. Domestic Terrorist didn't feed you well, did he?" I say as I plop down on the empty seat next to Sophie, who is eagerly munching on one of Ty's sandwiches.
"Don't worry, Charlotte, all the food on set is certified zombie-flesh-free," the Gamemaster's voice booms through the normally-silent radio in the car.
The car goes more quiet than I've ever heard in the past four days.
"...If I have to eat that food one more time, I'll quit," says Eli.
"In that case, I'm sure we'd happily feed it to you if we could get our hands on it," replies Julia.
Nothing much happens for the rest of the hours-long drive. We're dropped off at the foot of a mountain.
