"The city we're in right now is called Sylvino." Jasper announced, leading Robin towards the city center. "I've lived here all my life. Not in the camp, obviously. My parents kicked me out when I was eighteen. I couldn't land a job, so here I am."
Robin blinked.
"I'll show you what's what since you're new here, but don't think I'll be helping you out all the time. It's every man for himself here.
The woman nodded, following right beside him on the sidewalk. She kept looking at the people passing them by, but none of them returned her gaze.
"Don't bother trying to strike up a conversation. They ignore us. Rich scum."
Jasper expertly squeezed by a group of pedestrians. Robin did not get out of anyone's way, forcing the others to part to not get trampled by her weird, forward-leaning march. Jasper laughed out loud at the sight.
"I'll show you where the shelter is if you'd rather stay there, but they might call the police if they think something's wrong with you. It's an only option if it gets too cold, though. Sure beats the hell out of dying."
Robin said nothing once again.
"You know, it wouldn't kill you to respond so I don't feel like I'm monologuing."
"I had no comment about your words." Robin said as a matter of fact.
"I know that, but people normally respond when someone is talking to them. Y'know, give me at least a 'hm', or 'I see', or 'good'. Or whatever fits the situation, really. Or a question. Do you have any questions?"
"No."
A well suited man with a briefcase didn't get out of Robin's way, certain she'd move to not crash with him. She didn't, and they bumped shoulders.
"Watch it!" The man sneered with disgust.
In a blink Robin was already in motion, her fist connecting with the man's face. He stumbled back, and Robin was already next to him, pushing him down. She pinned him to the ground with her body weight, raising her fist again. The sound of flesh meeting flesh filled the air.
Some of the onlookers scattered, the others crowded in a safe distance. Nobody moved in to help.
"Oh shit!" Jasper exclaimed. "No! Leave him be, Robin!"
The man tried throwing her off, but she was stronger than him, keeping him trapped. She hit the man again.
The crowd was getting bigger. People were watching, horrified. A few had already pulled out their phones.
"Robin, we have to go!"
Not having any other option, Jasper put a hand on her shoulder.
He braced for the punch, but the pain sent him reeling back anyway. Blood poured from in between his fingers that he had clenched on him nose to protect it.
Robin got off the suited man, now focusing on Jasper. He was her new target.
"Stop! Wait!" Jasper quickly exclaimed. "I didn't mean any harm! I just wanted to get you off of him!"
Robin stopped in place. She tilted her head, not apologetic, just curious. Jasper sighed in relief.
"Here we don't just attack people on the streets!" He nervously glanced at the crowd with their phones out. "I'll touch you again without meaning to harm, alright?"
He grabbed her wrist nervously without waiting for a response. Robin looked down at it, but didn't attack. The man on the floor groaned, trying to sit up.
