Fannar was born when the White Star spat out a small comet that landed in Aru'dar. When it landed, the ice that emitted from it froze an entire village on the outskirts of Arue'dain, suggesting a strong spirit. When she was old enough, Lucian and Valadar, the eldest of the Ar'dun and the Bor'dun, tasked her to be the companion of young Ancient Marrok.

As they were both around the same age, Marrok and Fannar were relatively close, enjoying the comfort of each other's company during times of turmoil. Often times, Fannar would provide counsel to Marrok when he was unsure of his choices. As time went on, the two developed a strong relationship, albeit an unconditional one, as they endured the Great Conflict.

Fannar would fight in the Siege of Aru'dar of the First War when it became clear that the Titans were now on their doorstep. Because of her power over ice and the fact she was a Phoenix, Fannar was able to provide enough support for the Ancients when times were desperate. She, along with Valindrak, was there to witness the Duel for the Universe between Marrok and Umbra, a battle that she considered to be terrifying given the nature of the two beings.

During the Golden Age, Fannar would become a member of the High Council, replacing the position formerly held by one of the Great Dragons. When the Cer'dun began to join their ranks, Fannar acted as a teacher to many of them, and would take many as an apprentice during her time as an instructor. Much later in the Age, Fannar was part of an expedition to uncover the movements of the Titans on Balerion, a mission that fatally wounded her when one of Umbra's Horsemen, Satanis, struck her with a poisoned spear.

As a Bor'dun, Fannar was allowed to choose either rebirth or to transcend. If she transcended, Fannar would be welcomed into the Great Haven. If she chose to be reborn, she would continuously go through the cycle of life and death until memories of her previous life were lost. The only way to reclaim them would be if she decided to transcend. Though afraid of losing the memories she cherished, Fannar ultimately decided she would go through with being reborn until Marrok transcended. As a result of her choice, Fannar would slowly lose all memories of her old life, something that deeply affected Marrok. However, many of the Ancients that remembered her would go on to teach her the same lessons she taught them, with Meridia ultimately being her teacher for many generations afterward.

During her last rebirth, Fannar would be taught again by Meridia and witness the birth of her daughter Astra. As her previous lives had mostly been forgotten, Meridia did everything in her power to ensure that Fannar would not go through another rebirth...the ultimate reason for it was unclear.
