hey ellie
16:43how are you?
16:43do you have any plans for tomorrow?
16:44
this is mark btw
16:44ellie stared at the messages in shock. though unwillingly, she could feel her cheeks heating up.
'what kind of question is that? it sounds as if he's about to ask me out on a date.'
she shook her head at her thoughts, not believing that her mind was even capable of considering that option.
"you alright?" dahye asked, trying to sneak a glance at her phone.
but ellie just nodded, quickly switching off her phone and stowing in away in the back pocket of her jeans. she could respond later.
unfortunately for her, her best friend was not about to let the topic go just yet. "who was it?" she insisted.
pressured to react quickly, ellie blurted out the first thing that came to her mind.
"just doyun."
dahye deadpanned. "babes, doyun is writing an english essay right now, so i know for a fact that his phone will be turned off."
'well, that's rather unlucky, isn't it?'
"how do you even know that?" ellie groaned. dahye was the kind of girl to barely be able to keep up with her own schedule. why would she know anything about doyun's?
"i ate lunch with him. now tell me who was actually texting you."
accepting her fate, ellie gave in. "it was mark."
she didn't need to look at her friend to know what her reaction was going to be.
"lee mark? do you guys text often?" dahye squealed and leaned closer to her friend. "show me!"
ellie pushed her friends head away. "this is the first time he's texted me. we communicate through emails, usually."
her friend snorted. "email?!" a laugh of disbelief left her lips. just how distant was ellie trying to be with the boy?
"great. why did he text you now, though?"
now this is were ellie really felt like ending the conversation. but knowing her best friend, that was pointless.
so she did what she was best at; she lied.
"just something about practice." ellie mumbled, and surprisingly, dahye bought it.
a hint of disappointment on her face, she nodded, not asking any further questions.
ellie relaxed her shoulders again, happy with the fact that she didn't have to tell her friend about mark's questionable text message.

not sure if you noticed, but mark's plan of asking chenle to go watch the movie with him didn't turn out in his favour.
sure, he got to catch up with the chinese boy over some waffles, but at the end of their little chat, he still did not have a replacement for donghyuck.
"dude, where have you been? feels like it's been ages since the last time i actually got to talk to you."
chenle smiled sheepishly, sitting down in front of his older friend.
"school keeps me busy, i guess. though you should know, as a fourth year."
"just school?" mark laughed, sending a teasing grin towards the boy. "not that short brunette who stole your wallet the other day?"
