Meeting

As he approaches my car, I clutch my gun in my sweaty hands. The door is flung open and I aim my gun. A crossbow is shoved in my face.
"Drop it!" he shouts.
I can't risk dying so I drop my gun and it clatters to the floor. He yanks me out of the car as I fight to get away. "Estella, run!" I scream to my daughter, who is still cowering in the backseat. It's no use. The other man, who is dressed in a sheriff's uniform, yanks Estella out of the car. I thrash in his arms, but he's too strong.

"Get off of me, you prick!" I scream.
"Calm down, ma'am." the sheriff says.

I stop for a second as the sheriff grips my daughter's arm. I realize that I start to cry. The man with the crossbow lets me go and I stumble over to Estella. "Please," I ask, "just let us go."
The two men look at each other and then turn back to me.
"We can't trust you. You're going to have to come with us."
I sigh.

"My name is Victoria." I begin, "And this is my daughter Estella."
The sheriff kneels. "I'm Rick. He's Daryl." I stand up and clutch Estella's hand. "Come with us. We'll take care of you."
Rick guides me to the RV and leads me inside. He gives me a bottle of water. The relief when I take the first sip of water gushes through my body. I haven't drunk in days. "Thank you," I muttered, "We haven't had water in days." He slides in across from me in the booth.

"Where are you two headed?" he questions, gesturing towards my daughter on the couch. I shrug and reply, "No clue." Just then, a young woman with flowing blonde hair enters. She scoffs and rolls her eyes. "We're bringing in new people now?" she asks. One of my eyebrows raises. Who is this pendeja talking to? I decide to be nice because first impressions are important.
"I'm Victoria." I say, standing up, "What's your name?"
She glares at me but eventually spat out "Andrea." I smile warmly at her. I turn to Rick, "I hope we can be helpful to your group. Come on mija." Estella gets up and follows me out of the RV.
