the boy wasn't staring at me anymore, more like he was avoiding my gaze. Talon had left us alone, telling my any cat of my choice would love to come home with me.
his hair was messy, falling slightly in front of his eyes in a way that caused me to be unable to fully see the colour. he sat comfortably, however, and didn't move as i walked up to him.
"do you work here then?" i asked as i sat down, curious for a conversation with the stranger.
"uh, yes, yeah i have for a while," he avoided my gaze.
"how come i've never seen you?" i held my hand out for a cat approaching us. it sniffed me out before decided i was good enough to stroke him.
"uh, fate?" i giggled.
"usually people say that when they're talking about meeting, not why they haven't," he grinned at me and i caught sight of his green eyes. they were soft. everything about him seemed soft.
"the universe just wasn't ready for us to meet yet," my heart fluttered at what was probably the most romantic thing ever said to me.
in a cat rescue shelter.
on the floor.
with a stranger.
i shook my head and focused on the cat that was now purring in my lap. "do you know his name?"
"si, short for siberian. i guess his owners lacked an original thought," michael half-laughed, looking down into my lap.
i blushed as i followed his gaze and realised my skirt was high enough up my leg you could see the line in my tights. i pulled it down after he looked away but the back of my neck kept getting hotter in embarrassment. michael, however, didn't seem to lose the slightest bit of composure.
"you going to adopt si?" he questioned.
"it looks like he decided for me," i spoke quietly, i couldn't work out if he had seen how high it had been.
my question was answered, however, when he smirked at me. "i can see that."
