Key Sixteen: Will:
He's going to become a bigger part of the story. He just doesn't know it yet. Will mostly worked in the basement of Heaven's main headquarters. He loved to tinker with machines. He was good with his hands and tools. Will didn't talk to many people. Lenalee had to go out of her way to talk to him. Other than that, the others left him alone with his work.
Even so, he could that something was wrong.
Will was typing at his computer when he froze.
"Yeah?" he asked behind him. He listened as the heavy steel door slid open.
"Hello?" Max asked. "Anybody here?" Will froze with a confused look on his face. What was she doing here? Footsteps walked up behind him.
"What do you want?" he asked without turning around. The footsteps stopped in place. There came a pause.
"I need you to look into something," Max said.
"Let me guess, the forbidden files, right?" Will asked.
"Can you?" she asked.
"Why would I want to do that?" he asked. His fingers weren't moving on the keyboard.
"Haven't you always wanted to take a look?" Max asked. Will tried to keep it together. He didn't hate Max. And she was right. He always wanted to look into the forbidden files. Will pressed his lips together.
"What are you looking for?" he asked. There was a pause.
"It's for Lenalee," Max said. the other angel paused.
Everyone in Heaven left Will alone. They didn't hate him. They just didn't find him engaging enough. Some didn't even know that he worked in Heaven. Will could just blend into the background.
Fine by him.
He could get more work done. Sure, Will have colleagues. He didn't see much of them. Okay, he wasn't completely alone.
Will's phone rang moments later.
"Hello?" he asked.
"About time I got through," a feminine-sounding voice said.
"What is it, Kaoru?" Will asked.
"Why did I get a file addressed to you?" they asked. The tech angel wrinkled his nose as he looked confused.
"Addressed to me?" he asked.
"Yeah," Kaoru said.
"Who is it from?" Will asked as he stared at his computer screen.
"It doesn't say," the other angel said. The tech angel frowned.
"Do you want me to bring it to you?" Kaoru asked.
"No," Will said quickly as he shook his head. "I'll come down there and pick it up." There was a pause on the other line.
"Wait... You sure about that?" the other angel asked. Will sighed.
"Yes, I will be right there," he said. "Hang on to it for me." He turned and walked out of his office.
It must have been weird to see Will out of the basement and in the hallway. Some of the other angels had to do a double-take. He kept his eyes to himself.
"I don't have time for this," he said to himself. He kept his hands in his pockets. Everyone thought that he slept in that basement. Will pushed through the staring and whispering to the elevator and hit the up button.
Now, he has two things to do. Max wanted him to look into some forbidden files and Kaoru had a package for him. The angel rubbed his forehead.
"What the hell is this?" he asked. Will looked up at the ceiling and sighed. Better get this over with so that he can get back to what he was originally doing.
Kaoru was already waiting for him at the elevator on the third floor with the package in their hands. Will blinked at them.
"You didn't have to wait for me here," he said. "I was coming up, wasn't I?"
"And you are here," Kaoru said. "I figured I would save you the further trouble." Will had a flat look on his face as he took the package. The other angel waved at his back as he turned and went back into the elevator. Will frowned to himself as he rode back down to the basement. What the hell was all of this? The tech angel frowned as he wrinkled his nose.
"So annoying," he muttered to himself.
Still, he's already in the thick of it. He's about to go deeper into it too. It all started with that package sent to him.
