Sebastian watched from the far side of the common room as Darling's giggles rang out, filling the vast space between them. She was seated by the windows with Vincent Burke. He had that infuriatingly charming smirk plastered across his face as he whispered something in her ear. Sebastian flinched as whatever he'd said earned him even more of Darling's melodic laughter.
What's his game? Sebastian thought. Was he trying to get close to Darling on daddy's orders... or was he after the same thing he usually used that smirk to get?
As if in answer, Vinnie's hand began sliding ever so slowly, finding a grip on Darling's thigh. Anger burst into life within Sebastian. How dare— but he forced it down, telling himself that at any moment she would push him away... or hex him into oblivion. But she didn't. Sebastian watched, as if in slow motion as her lips parted, Vinnie leaning forward, a hungry glint in his eye—
No.
In what felt like an instant, Sebastian found himself across the room. He wasn't quite sure when his legs had started carrying him there, but it didn't matter. He had lost all sense. His body seemed to be acting of its own accord, his mind too consumed with furious madness to keep up. He barely even registered the wide-eyed, innocent curiosity in Darling's eyes as she looked up at him before he was gripping her arm and yanking her off the sofa. She gasped in surprise, and Vinnie said something— but Sebastian couldn't hear him over the roaring sound of fiery chaos burning inside him.
"Sebastian!" Darling yelped, trying to wrench her arm free, but he only tightened his grip, dragging her as far away from Vinnie as possible. No.
He marched them towards the hidden alcove behind the statue of Salazar Slytherin, tucked under the stairs leading to the seventh-year dorms. He pulled her inside and out of sight, spinning her around so her back hit the cold stone wall with a thud.
"Sebastian, what the bloody—" Darling started to say, but he cut her off, slamming his fists onto the wall on either side of her, pinning her in place.
"Stay away from him," Sebastian growled through gritted teeth.
Her hazel eyes were wide with a mixture of shock and confusion. The bewilderment there only fueled his temper further. That was what hurt the most. Her complete inability to see what was so damned obvious. He leaned in, burning his eyes into hers, willing her to understand.
"Sebastian, wh— what are you doing?" she stammered.
How could someone with such big eyes be so blind? But fine. He could spell it out like the swot that he was.
"You're mine!" he growled dangerously. "You belong to me!"
We belong to each other– with each other.
He watched as those big eyes widened even further, flickering between his own, searching. A beautiful rosy flush spread across her cheeks, her usually unshakable demeanour faltering under his intensity.
For all she had been through— For all they had been through together— there was still an innocence and vulnerability within her. He knew there was.
"Darling..." he whispered, lowering his voice to a husky plea that he desperately hoped would convey the raw emotion trapped inside him. An all too familiar fear flashed in her eyes and they began to sharpen, turning cold. He knew she was mere moments away from shutting this down, throwing up her icy walls and locking him out— again.
"Sebastian, I—"
No!
He swallowed her words, crashing his lips into hers with bruising force. His hands slid down the cold stone wall, one wrapping around the back of her neck, the other tangling in her golden mane as he pulled her into him. "Mine," he mumbled into her lips before deepening the kiss, tasting the sweet essence that was his Darling.
