Chapter 10: Cry For the Moon

Some random pony's dream

Sun and Luna chased Ultra Violet out of dream after dream. This was their seventh time doing it, but it felt like their seventieth. Each time, the monstrous forms the bicorn took on became gradually weaker and weaker, but still something to be feared nonetheless. The unicorn-alicorn duo found themselves in a dream that took place deep underwater. 

From the darkness, a creature that they knew to be Ultra Violet - most closely resembling some kind of demonic electric eel - lurched towards them. But this time, Luna didn't even flinch before blocking her and Sun from it with a protective bubble-shield.

"My child, we have to put an end this insanity! What meaning do you find in this rampage?!" the alicorn said.

The eel swam back into the darkness without even attempting to weaken the shield with a bite, instead leaving the two to anticipate its next attack. They waited with bated breath, but it just didn't come. It became like a standoff with someone who wasn't even there. But after what felt like hours, they suddenly heard Ultra Violet speak to them in her regular voice.

"I will stop at nothing to avenge your failure, my mistress!" she said from an unknown location. Despite them being underwater, they could not only breathe perfectly fine, but they also could hear each others' voices as if they were on land. "You have fallen so far that you have forgotten your mission, and now it is mine to carry out! Why must you try again and again to stop me? For countless moons, I have drifted through space in hopes to reach the planet, and when I finally do, that STUPID unicorn seals me away! It is my sole purpose to-"

"No, it is not! You have no 'purpose'!" Luna countered. "Yes, it is the undeniable truth that I made you as a tool to get revenge on my sister, but I do not feel the need for revenge anymore! You fail to realize your 'purpose' is obsolete! You are free of it, and you can be your own person, independent of I, your creatress! What more need I say for you to realize that?"

Silence.

After going in circles for so long, the argument had finally ended. Seeing a long, long moment of silence, Sun thought to create a sense of levity after such a fierce battle had seemingly come to an anticlimactic end. She whispered to the alicorn, "I swear, she does not talk this verbosely when she's around me."

Luna turned and looked at her with a curious expression. "Sun, I believe I have a way we can end this, but it may be risky. However, it could save her." Sun waited for an explanation as she looked into Luna's confident eyes, but instead, Luna asked, "But you must trust that I know what I'm doing." Sun didn't know what she was going to do, but she nodded.

In the real world

Twilight and Zecora continued to sit in a tension-filled silence, waiting for any sign of... well... anything to happen. During their wait, they tried to make small-talk, but it always ended after about three sentences. Once they finally noticed Sun's body begin to move, they were both excited, and a bit dreadful. But something much stranger grabbed their attention. The space around them began to twist and distort, just like the buildings in Rainbow's dream.

Then, a large portal seemed to replace the surface of wall behind Sun, and from it, Ultra Violet appeared. She glared at the two after landing onto the floor of the room, and stayed silent, as if awaiting their next move. A two-against-one standoff had begun, and no one knew what to expect. Just as Twilight was about to finally speak, Luna and Sun leapt out of the portal behind them.
