"You're actually auditioning for the show?" Nini questioned when she saw Eliza sign up on the clipboard in front of the drama teacher's office. "I thought you were kidding." Nini smiled to hide her nervousness.
"I wasn't. And I'm not entirely new to the theatre scene- I was the one who told you to audition for the show last year," Eliza stated. "Plus, it's High School Musical. It's only my favorite DCOM trilogy."
"You're right," Nini said. "You're going for Gabriella, too?"
"Question is, who isn't going for Gabriella?" Eliza said, looking at the list of names on the sign-up sheet. "Uh, I'll meet you before auditions start. See you later, Nini," Eliza said when she walked away, looking for a person she never expected to have his name on there.

"Please tell me you're joking," Eliza said when she walked into the boys' locker room. It was empty- except one person. He had always had gym the same hour every year, and he was always the first to change. Luke was standing by his gym locker, his shirt in his hands.
"What are you talking about?" Luke questioned.
"The show."
"Ah, what about it? Everyone's welcome to audition," Luke stated. "It's High School Musical, it's everyone's dream theater role."
"Aren't you too busy for anything other than football?" Eliza questioned. "The show will take a whole lot of time away from football. It's more than just lines you learn. It's lyrics, dances, where to stand, how to deliver lines."
"Wouldn't it be fun, being Troy and Gabriella?" Luke asked, smiling. "Imagine it-"
"Actually, I can't. Because EJ will probably be Troy, he has seniority," Eliza cut Luke off. "And who knows who will be Gabriella. Could be anyone who auditions."
"If you aren't Gabriella, someone must've paid the new drama teacher for the role," Luke said. Eliza was going to respond but the door opened, and boys were walking in, commenting about Eliza's presence. "See you at auditions, Liza."
Eliza huffed and left the locker room. The bell had rung and she was already late for class- it was Mr Mazzara's class, and in past experiences, it was better to be absent than late.
"Eliza!"
Eliza stopped and walked into the stairwell, seeing Ricky Bowen. They had been friends since they could talk, they lived right across the street to each other. But throughout the years, they grew apart, Nini and Ricky dated and broke up. And Eliza, even though she remained friends with Nini and Kourtney, she had different interests than her junior high friends and spent most of her free time with Lucas and the girls, and she busied herself with all her clubs and cheerleading.
