"Nina Salazar-Roberts!" Eliza shouted from the outside of Nini's bedroom. Nini had finally opened it. Both girls sat on Nini's bed. "Look, I love you. But whatever you told Ricky is making him quit the show. And yes, it's a good thing for you, I suppose, but it's also a really bad thing because— do you even know who Troy's understudy is? You thought you were helping EJ? No, you're making Luke be Troy. And Kourt, I know you're team anti-Ricky, but you are also team anti-Luke. So let's come up with a plan to either keep Ricky in the show or get Luke to leave. But that leaves EJ as the Troy to my Gabriella."

"I didn't tell him off to make him quit," Nini told Eliza. She felt bad.

"Sure ya did," Kourtney added as she set down clothes on Nini's bed.

"Ugh, I should've just minded my own business, I just—"

"It's really not that hard to do," Eliza interrupted.

"Can I ask you both a question?" Kourtney asked. "Do you wanna be with EJ or not? And you," she turned to Eliza, "weren't you just saying that you wanted Luke back? Because newsflash, the person you want to get back together with just booked leading man."

"It's not that easy," Eliza stated. "And Luke's clearly not Troy material—"

"Ricky's not either," Kourtney finished. "Why are you even fighting for him to stay? He broke Nini's heart."

"I know, but— he used to be our friend too. And all he has now is Big Red. It's kind of sad, plus I don't— crap, it's almost dinner time," Eliza's phone beeped. A text from her mom to be home in ten minutes. "I'll see you guys tomorrow," Eliza sighed.

Eliza was reading the chapter her AP Lit teacher assigned when her phone beeped. She assumed it was the groupchat between her, Nini and Kourtney. But after earlier, she knew they wouldn't talk to her until tomorrow.

Ricky Bowen

Ricky: you busy?
Eliza: it's called homework, have you heard of it?
Ricky: I hate to ask, I know it's late, but I need help.
Eliza: what's up, Ricky?
Ricky: I'd rather talk in person. if that's okay?
Eliza: it's eleven at night.
Ricky: I saw your light on. please?
Eliza: you're paying for my funeral.

Eliza left a pencil on the page she was reading and closed the book. She looked outside her bedroom window and saw Ricky looking out of the window of his house.

It wasn't like Eliza hadn't snuck out before— she'd spent the night at Luke's multiple times and was able to sneak back in before her parents knew. But her parents knew, but they trusted her enough not to get caught.
