Polen was riding high on the success of her newest cookbook. The book, its pages adorned with colourful illustrations and mouth-watering recipes, had been hailed by critics and readers alike. At the launch party, surrounded by her closest friends and colleagues, Polen revelled in the attention, basking in the glow of her achievement.
She had strategically invited several journalists to attend the event, hoping to drum up even more buzz for her book. But she had also tipped them off to ask about her personal life, specifically her relationship with Can.
"Polen hanim, we hear that Can Divit worked with you on this book," asked a young lady.
"Yes, that's correct." Polen smiled in Can's direction. "He not only took the photographs, but also oversaw of the artistic design, and you can see for yourselves what a fantastic job he did."
"Can you confirm that you and Can were romantically involved?"
"Er...yes, Can and I dated for a few years." Polen replied.
"Photos of both of you often graced many of the magazines. You looked so compatible."
"Thank you very much. You are very kind," beamed Polen.
"Dare we hope that working on the book together has opened up the possibility of rekindling your romance?"
"Ladies and gentlemen, we're here for a book launch. Can we stay on track please?" Can cautioned. "This was strictly a business project between Polen and me, nothing more." As he spoke, Polen could see the flash of irritation in his eyes.
