Day 19 of Christmas
In the heart of Newcastle, Anthony Gordon and his girlfriend Y/n walked through the snow-covered streets, the city newly covered in twinkling Christmas lights. Y/n, ever the optimist, insisted she didn't need gloves while they decided to go for their morning stroll, claiming immunity to the cold, but as they ventured further, her hands betrayed her, succumbing to the winter chill. She shivered slightly, catching the attention of Anthony, who was holding the lead for their dog right next to her.
"I told you, love, you should've worn gloves," Anthony grumbled, his breath visible in the frosty air. Y/n smiled in return. "I don't feel the cold, remember?" Anthony nodded, knowing fine rightly it was the sense of pride mainly getting her through the cold, however, as they meandered through the snowy cityscape, her laughter turned to a subtle shiver. Anthony, despite his grumpy exterior, couldn't bear to see her discomfort. He looked around and spotted a small coffee stall and nudged her. "Come on. Let's get you a tea."
They huddled close, steam from their cups mingling with the wintry air. Y/n's hands sought warmth in the paper cup she wrapped her hands around, but everywhere else was still very cold. Sensing her need, Anthony unzipped his abnormally large coat and opened it wide, enveloping her in a makeshift cocoon. "You and your 'no cold' nonsense," he teased, though a soft smile betrayed his true feelings. "In fairness, I didn't expect it to be this cold, love." She retorted, sipping her drink.
As they continued sitting in the coat together, a fan, recognizing the couple, discreetly captured the heartwarming scene. The innocent and pure photo circulated online, capturing the essence of their love amid the festive backdrop.
"You ever think I have no self preservation thoughts?" Y/n asked. Anthony's eyes darted to the side, almost as to say 'mmh, you don't say'. Y/n noticed and giggled. "That's my answer." Anthony laughed along. "I think that's where I come in as the Knight in shining armour, isn't it?" He smiled.
Later that evening, back in the warmth of their home, Y/n scrolled aimlessly through instagram while Anthony decided decided shower and through on a podcast. As Y/n lay in a blanket in the living room, she sstumbled upon the viral photo and grinned. He looked like such a softy. Anthony shortly came downstairs with his hair still wet but now in a warm set of clothes. "Oh, by the way, before I forget." Y/n began, taking out her phone and opening instagram. "Look at this." She smiled, holding up her phone. Anthony's face turned a shade of crimson. "Bloody hell, didn't think anyone was watching."
"And would you had done it if someone was?" She asked. "Nah, would've let you freeze." He joked. Y/n wrapped her arms around him. "It's adorable! We look so in love." Anthony, still slightly embarrassed, mumbled something under his breath, before Y/n asked him to repeat himself a bit louder. "It's just the cold making us do weird things."
But Y/n disagreed. "No, it's genuine. People love it because it's real." He looked over to her with a lazy smile on his face. "You're awfully optimistic." He said. "Yeah, but that's where you come in. Knight in shining armour, remember?" He looked between her eyes and felt pure content in himself. "What are people saying about us, anyway?" Anthony asked. "Well, they're so cute! Like look here!"
As they scrolled through the comments, Anthony's frown softened. Y/n was right - amidst the snowfall and the unexpected warmth of a shared coat, they found a simple, genuine connection that resonated with others. And in that moment, their own little Christmas tale became a cherished memory for many.
