Gege's Brother pt1

We were surprised and happy when JiJi and Gege invited everyone in the family to a dinner event. We were happy to be invited to this dinner because JiJi didn't threw a party to celebrate her birthday in January and instead opted to go on a family trip with her husband and son. But the happy part were replaced with horror when Mama, Baba, Qing and I arrived first at JiJi and Gege's home and saw Gege's face.

Qing: (couldn't help himself) Did you invite us to say you two are getting divorce because of domestic violence?

Mama and I immediately protested at my husband's statement.

Mama: Wang Qing! Your sister would never...!

Me: Yeah! JiJi would never beat up her husband.

Qing: (gesturing at Gege) Well he wouldn't look beaten up if no one did that to him!

Baba: (sighing) Can we all get inside first and not do this on the entrance? (smiling kindly at JiJi and Gege) I'm sure there is a perfectly good explanation on why he looks like that.

Thats JiJi's cue to burst into tears.

JiJi: We are pregnant!

Our collective horror were again replaced by shock and jubilation. Baba and Mama lunged forward to hug JiJi and Gege.

Mama: (emotional) Oh my...oh my...you two...oh my...my JiJi...

Baba: (patting Gege's back) You two did well. You did very well.

I was tearing up too. You all have to understand. JiJi and Gege had been married close to a decade now. They had went through so much in their attempts to conceive. They adopted JR, live contentedly while raising their son lovingly. We were on a silent agreement that maybe, just maybe, JiJi and Gege had finally given up on getting pregnant and had stopped trying for another child.

But look here...JiJi and Gege are finally pregnant. Still though...

Me: (as it was finally our turn to hug JiJi) Why is Gege's face like that?

Gege: (wincing through the bruises and scrapes on his face) Lets head inside. I think we should wait for Uncle and Auntie to arrive so we can explain it while everyone is here.

We went inside. While Mama and Baba kept on fussing on JiJi and Gege in joy, I noticed my husband being quiet. Oh, Qing already congratulated his sister and brother in law. He also asked where JR is.

JiJi: He's sleeping over at a friend's house. Its his friend's turn to host.

Mama: The friend that lives just two blocks from here?

JiJi: Yes. There are four of them sleeping over there. They give us hourly updates on the kids. Their nannies are also there.

You gotta give it to rich people and their sleepovers. When I slept over at Meng's or Xiao's before, we just played a couple of games and then go to sleep. No nannies or hourly updates happening. But yeah, times are different now. When in Rome we do as Romans do or so the saying goes.

Anyways when Auntie, Uncle, Zhu gege and Pau arrived, the whole shock, horrified and happy rollercoaster happened again. Zhu gege hugged JiJi tightly. Even kissing the top of JiJi's head.

Wang Zhu: You should have given me a warning. I would have bought something instead of wine to this dinner.

JiJi: I could still drink that after giving birth. Heck as soon as the baby comes out, I'll probably drink.

Pau: (chuckling) Thats a plan right there. Congratulations.

Gege: Thank you.

Qing: (sounding impatient) And so. Can we now hear why Gege looks like he got involved in a brawl?
