I'm back home here in the capital after a couple of days of visiting my parents. Qing is still busy but he assured me that his work and school load are much lighter now compared to last week. I made chicken noodle soup to cheer him on. Its July and can I just say that we should all agree, July is such a boring month.
Pau: July is not a boring month. Zhu was born in July and we got married in July. I love July.
Pau and I had a rare moment of meeting up to have coffee and tea in a cafe. Its sucks that us meeting is rare these days but I kinda understand that Pau is busy. He is a big deal now in the company and an ever bigger deal in the family. Thats how amazing Pau is.
Me: Okay, stop lying. No one sane would love July. You can love October, barely because its also a boring month, but not July. July is the chayote of month. You know, that bland vegetable that we can all eat but no one would say that its their favorite.
Pau laughed.
Pau: Okay, I get the chayote part. But truly, what is your beef on July?
Me: Its not June and its not August either. And how dare it have 31 days in it? Like it should be September that should have that extra one day. September is a pretty month.
Pau: I agree about September.
Me: See? So why does July have that extra one day? Its insanity.
Pau: If you will rank the months...?
Me: August is number one. I was born in August.
Pau: (grinning) Oh of course.
Me: Then September would be next. Like I said, September is just so pretty. Its like the month when things shift from Summer to Autumn. The same goes for April when its fully Spring. Then next come May when all the flowers have arrived.
Pau: I see. I see.
Me: Then November, because for some reason it is short. Like November knows its okay that they come but they won't overstay their welcome. Do you get it?
Pau: (frowning) Huh. Strange but I do get your point. When its November, time flew by with almost no hitch.
Me: (snapping my fingers) Exactly. November is that person who comes, doesn't bother anyone, just do its thing, and then give way to December graciously.
Pau: So...December would come after November?
Me: In the calendar, yes. But in my list, no. After November, it will be February. Its short and sweet and also gentle. Its advantage is that it comes after January which is a brutal month.
Pau: (wincing) That it is. Oh January is a hard month.
Me: Yup. Its hard but not boring. After February comes December and June. For some reason, December and June feels the same but in a different manner. If you get my drift.
Pau: No, I don't get it. December is cold while June is the start of Summer.
Me: June and December are like the best enders. June ends the half of the year wonderfully while December just feel festive.
Pau: And then its January?
Me: (nodding as I sip some latte) Yeah. January could be a buzzkill but its the start of a new year and whatever happens in January could somehow make or break your year.
Pau: (nodding back) So true.
Me: And then we're down to the two most boring months. October and July. Like, whats their deal? Why are they even part of the year? Why...what? Huh?
Pau chuckled.
Pau: I told you July isn't so bad.
Me: No, its bad.
Pau: No its not.
Me: (smiling) Do you guys have plans for your anniversary?
Pau: (sighing) Not yet. Zhu is hinting on wanting to travel but this project we are dealing with at the moment kinda complicate life right now...
Me: Hmmm...then maybe you should go and travel. The more things are jumbled up, the more the need to take a step back and look at it from a fresh angle.
Pau sat straighter.
Pau: You know what, I think you are into something with that. Please elaborate.
Me: (shrugging) All I mean is maybe you are looking at the matter with tired eyes. How about resting those eyes, relax them a bit, look at something else, maybe another scenery and then go back to that matter with fresh and well rested eyes? Huh?
Pau nodded while looking contemplative.
Pau: Yeah, I think that makes sense.
Me: (chuckling) Well, I may not have an MBA or something but I could dish out some sensible things from time to time.
Pau: (rolling his eyes) Stop being passive agressive in fishing for compliments. You know too well that I think you are one of the smartest person alive. I think you are even smarter than the rest of us. Just not on business. Thank goodness!
Me: (laughing) Yeah you are all doomed if I suddenly took interest in business matters. I will kick you all to get to the top.
Pau: (grinning) You know what, I almost want to see you do that. Almost. If I am not aiming for that top spot myself, I would encourage you to be more involve in the business side of this family. But yeah...I need less competition, not more.
We chuckled together. Okay, I'll admit it. Amidst the rising temperature outside because Summer is going on its full blast, its nice to be out with Pau.
Me: Fine! July is not that bad.
Pau: (grinning) Its my favorite month. He he
I laughed. He is adorable.
How about you guys? Have you thought about whats your favorite month? Doesn't have to be your birth month.
Ciao ciao
