Your blood ran cold at the man's words. The boss?
Not even a few seconds later the door opened, and the men in the room bowed their head. You were a bit surprised by the man that walked in. He was shorter than the rest, his body looked almost too thin. He had such dark circles under his eyes that you just thought he looked more like a victim than the leader of an organization like Bonten.
A man in suit followed him, placing down another chair in front of you. The boss stared at you, furrowing his brows slightly. ''I thought I told you not to hurt her.'' He started, sending a questioning glance to Sanzu. ''She was keeping quiet and acted dumb.'' Sanzu simply explained. ''I know I crossed a line, but me and Kakucho both agreed that it was the right course of action in this situation.'' Kakucho narrowed his eyes at Sanzu for throwing him under the bus like that.
''We'll discuss this later. Everyone, leave the room.'' The boss sat down on the chair, and you noted that they had left just enough room between the chairs that you couldn't even attempt to do anything. The room soon cleared, the last man closing the door behind him. The atmosphere in the room turned frigid, as the man studied you.
''What's your mother's illness?''
That question caught you off guard, but made you see red. You could endure being interrogated and punched. You could get over your poor renter being threatened. But your mom being pulled into all this? Absolutely not.
''It doesn't matter.'' The eyes of the man in front of you widened slightly. He was surprised by your cool tone and newly found determination, as you looked at him straight in the eyes. ''You are right. It doesn't.'' His expression quickly shifted to a one you couldn't read.
''Where's our money?''
Silence.
''Why did you take money from us?''
Silence.
''Are your mother's hospital bills that high?''
''Stop fucking talking about my mom.'' You spat at him. ''I don't care what happens to me, but you leave my mother alone.''
''You don't care about what happens to you, hm?'' He hummed, leaning back on his chair.
Silence.
''Does your cheek hurt?''
''What are you trying to gain from these stupid questions?'' You raised an eyebrow at him. ''You are quite sharp.'' He chuckled at you. ''I'd recommend cooperating, though. Your life depends on your answers.'' The way he talked so casually about your life made you shudder. You were a human being just like him, but it didn't matter to him. Whether or not you were useful was the only thing he cared about.
''...My head hurts more than my cheek. It hit the floor.''
''I see. I'll have to talk about that with Sanzu later.''
Silence soon followed, as you waited for him to ask the next question.
''The money.''
''...I'll return it.'' You didn't know what it was, but something about him was...different. Sanzu was aggressive, but the man in front of you seemed so calm and collected, and you weren't used to it.
''We don't really need such a small amount of money, it doesn't make a difference.''
A small amount of money?
''Then you probably wouldn't mind me using that money to pay for my mother's bills?'' Your tone was laced with sarcasm.
The man answered with a low chuckle, as he now leaned forward. ''You can keep it if you make a deal with me.''
