The Fate Family started off as a legendary dragon hunting family. Arthur has long forgotten his father and mother, and was born with a brother.
Arthur was always obsessed with dragons, seeing them as a beautiful creation. He loved them to the point of obsession. When a Winter Fae came around and tought him magic, he didn't wait before casting spell upon spell on himself.
James, his youngest son, tried to stop Arthur. In a fit of rage father attacked son, killing him brutally before continuing to cast spell upon spell on himself.
Kyl, Arthur's eldest son, held onto the pride of that, and fostered his own son when Kain was born.
Kyl was physically abusive, attacking and brutalizing Kain and his siblings with every chance he got. Kyl had been infected by a curse that was a unintentional consequence of all the spells Arthur cast on himself.
Nathan, Kain's younger brother, left and apprenticed with a feeble wizard, incapable of magic.
Shuriken apprenticed with Mathew Dremwilch, learning to become a powerful dragon hunter.
Elizabeth and Kain stayed at home, with Kain caring for the young girl. This was only because Kyl had beaten Jamie Fate to the point that she fled late at night.
Kain killed Kyl when Kain had crossed his limits while drunk one night, and fled with his best friend Ryan Embers to the Laelan Dynasty.
After a few years Kain and Ryan returned to The Republic of Unity. Kain met Lily Manchester, and was engaged with her when Kain's son Igneus was born.
However, there was a complication with his birth, and Lily died. Kain spiraled into depression, and became the very monster Kyl was, and began to abuse his son. After eleven years they moved closer to Ryan Embers.
After accepting a quest sending Ryan, Kain, and Igneus as well as a few of Ryan's dragons sending the group into the Mederi Desert the magically charged desert sped up the effects of the Fate Family curse.
Kain rapidly degraded mentally as a tumor grew in his brain, causing him to be erratic and violent. After Elizabeth slit his throat killing him, the curse effected Igneus.
After attacking the members of the group Kain was brought back through the Fate Family curse, allowing for a resurrection after dying. Once Kain was back he killed Igneus and left him for dead.
This infuriated Igneus causing Kain's son to hunt him down. Seeking the help of reanimated corpses, as well as trying to revive a dead ocean dragon. With both failed, Igneus turned to his spells effecting the mind, and wiped Kain's personality of everything but his violence. Kain killed Arthur, Shuriken, Elizabeth, and Igneus before getting his mind back.
Through all of this Kain and Ryan began to foster a relationship, and after a few years Kain and Ryan got married.
Meanwhile Kyl realized that the Fate magic was like a pie, and that Fate's got an even slice, so if there was only one they would be insanely powerful. So with Oberon's permission, Kyl went to go and kill the entire Fate family.
